• Chapter 10

The next day at school, Molly was absolutely exhausted. Since she was at the Pit Stop so late with Beth and Rick last night, she had to stay up to finish her homework for the night. She felt like a zombie, but nevertheless, she made sure she drank enough tea so she could pay attention to her studies.

It was now lunch, and Molly was starving since she didn't get to eat breakfast. For the first time ever, Molly was late getting out of bed and running out the door. She didn't even recognize herself. As she made her way over to her and Cameron's usual table, she stopped in her tracks when she heard somebody hiss her name. She turned around and saw Courtney standing at a table with Yolanda, Beth, Rick, and Henry King Jr. Courtney ushered for her to come over to their table, and Molly turned to Cameron, who was looking at her confused. She held up her finger to let him know she would be there in a few minutes before going over to their table quickly and sitting between Yolanda and Rick.

"I've never sat over here before. It's weird," Molly replied, feeling very out of place. Then, she turned to Yolanda and asked, "Is this where drug deals go down?"

"Molly, now's not the time," Courtney said to her, which made Molly look at her confused, "We've got a problem.

Then, Courtney proceeded to tell them everything that happened. First, Courtney's mother knows everything. She found Courtney and Pat in their basement with the staff, and she kicked Pat out of the house, which made Molly feel really sad for Pat. Second, Brainwave is now awake from his coma, and Icicle took him and Courtney's staff at the hospital. Molly had a pretty good idea where they were both taken to. Now, apparently Henry King Jr. is on their side and wants to help them since he believed his father was different than the other members of the JSA. Third, Brainwave's wife was Starman's sister, making Courtney and Henry cousins.

Finally, Jordan Mahkent is Icicle. That's what shocked Molly the most. She couldn't believe that her best friend's father, who had always treated her with kindness, was responsible for killing the entire Justice Society. Did Cameron know about any of this? Did Cameron have the same powers as his father? All she knew was that no matter how hard she tried to keep Cameron away from all of this, he was already involved, whether she liked it or not.

The first person to respond to Courtney's summary was Rick, who was not pleased, "Way to go, Court! You just gave up our identities to the enemy."

"Henry is not the enemy," Courtney tried to reason with them, but it really didn't help.

"Yes, he is!" Yolanda argued with her, just as upset as Rick.

To her surprise, Henry spoke up from beside Courtney, "Look, if it helps anything, she didn't tell me. I read her mind."

Molly, Yolanda, Beth, and Rick's eyes all widened as they looked at each other. Courtney saw the expressions on their faces and assured them, "Which he's not going to do anymore."

"That's only polite!" Beth smiled, trying to lighten the mood. Yolanda and Rick just looked at her annoyed while Molly sent her a small smile so she would know they appreciated it.

Courtney just sighed before telling them, "Look, my mom wants me and her to leave town today. Forever."

Molly's heart dropped to the floor while Beth immediately argued, "No, you can't go."

"I know," Courtney agreed with her. Molly could see the glint of sadness in her eyes, which made Molly start to feel a change of heart about this situation. Courtney continued, "But if we find Brainwave and stop the ISA, maybe we can not only save the town but... we could also save Pat and my mom."

"And save this asshole's dad?" Rick asked her incredulously as he pointed at Henry. Courtney's face fell slightly as Rick continued, "If Brainwave gets his memories back, he'll kill you first, and then we're next. He'll find out all of our identities unless Junior here gives us up first."
