THE SOUND OF THE SCHOOL announcer rang throughout the school, a few freshmen turned their heads upwards, but overall most of the school continued with their day, use to the daily announcements by now.

"Good morning students of Denver High, only one announcement today, a new club was recently formed called 'Chess Club.' This is where you can play chess and make new friends, anyone who is interested please head to G8." The announcement cuts off and Billy looks up momentarily, "don't you think the announcer sounds familiar?"

Billy's friends turn to him with confused faces, "no? I mean it's a student but I don't know who it is." One of his non-baseball friends says.

While Billy's close with his baseball friends and hangs out with them outside of school, he hangs out with his casual friends during the school day.

"I mean the announcing room is just there, we can see who the announcer is," One of them smirked, Billy rolled his eyes but turned to the door and watched as a girl walked out.

She was holding her textbook to her chest as she closed the announcing room and locked it, Billy watched as the girl sighed and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

One of Billy's friends snickered and patted his shoulder, "isn't that your girlfriend that sits next to you in maths?"

Billy snapped out of his staring and turned to one of his friends, "she's not my girlfriend."

"You were staring at her as though you have a crush on her." Billy opened his mouth to protest but couldn't find the words to do so.

He swallowed the build-up of saliva in his throat before breaking eye contact with his friend, who let out a hefty laugh.

"Oh now that's rich," The boy snickered as the redhead walked past, he let go of Billy's shoulder and instead watched as the girl went beside one of them and placed her history textbook in her locker and took out her maths one.

Billy's friend smirked and moved so he was beside Billy and as Liliya walked passed he stuck out his foot, causing the girl to fall over.

She dropped her maths textbook and bashed her knee against the hard school floor, a few people walking passed turned to look but said nothing.

She bit the inside of her cheek as she glared up at the boy, pissed. Someone came in front of her and extended an arm, she awkwardly looked up and when she saw who it was she was sure she saw red.

Billy Showalter.

She glared at the sandy-haired boy and snatched her textbook from the floor and stood up herself, her knee hurt from the impact, and her hands were red as she brushed herself off.

But nothing she felt at that moment could compare to the rage she felt when she saw Billy Showalter in front of her.

She angrily pushed past him, muttering 'assholes.'

Billy snapped his head towards the girl, slightly shocked. He watched as she walked away, the echoing of his friend's laughter bounced from his head, he wanted nothing more than to strangle them all.

He bit the inside of his cheek as he stalked off to Maths, he sits next to Liliya there so he can apologise for his friend's behaviour there.

Of course, when he got there, Liliya was sitting in her seat. He sat next to her and sent her a small smile, she didn't send one back. He was about to apologise for his friend's behaviour before the teacher began talking to the class.

Five minutes in, Billy tried sending her a note, to which she crumpled up and threw it back before she opened it. He tried again and again but she just kept on ripping them up, after about ten minutes of notes being thrown back and forth without a reply from Liliya, Billy decided to talk to her.

Even if it risked detention, he didn't care.

If Liliya was mad at him, he'd risk it all so she's forgiven him.

"Look, Liliya I'm-"

"Mr Showalter, refrain from talking in my lesson." He said, his eyes flickering to a very annoyed Liliya.

Billy closed his mouth quickly and nodded, he breathed out of his nose before scooting his chair closer, to which she moved away from. He leaned over and whispered to her, "thanks for doing rounds with me yesterday morning, I just wanted to ask if you'd want to do the same tomorrow morning?" He asked quietly, hoping this will ease her annoyance.

It didn't.

She didn't even send him a glance so instead, he continued, "I wanted to say sorry for my friend's ac-"

"Can you shut up?" She snapped, turning her head towards the shocked boy, although it was her normal talking voice, the silence in the room projected it ten times it's normal volume.

As if the classroom could get any more silent, it did.

His eyes widened slightly as he blinked a few times but moved away from her, at her request he stayed quiet for the rest of the lesson.

He was embarrassed.

Not because she told him to shut up in a silent room, but because she looked at him as though he was just like his friends.

But he couldn't blame her.

He knew about the fact they liked to bully and pick on people, and yet he never said anything, instead he stood to the side and even sometimes he'd catch himself laughing along.

The only time he got annoyed at them was because it was someone he liked.

He was just as bad.
