SEVENTEEN
LIGHT RAYS OF SUN poured into Billy's bedroom window as he pulled on his white trainers, Skipper sat beside him playing with a toy in her mouth.
The sandy-haired boy smiled and ruffled the dog's fur before standing up and walking out, he didn't know what he was doing, he didn't know if it would be a bad idea if he did it, but he knew if he didn't do it, he'd regret it.
So he left his house. He walked down the lonely streets and walked to the house he's passed so many times on newspaper rounds, the fallen leaves crunching under his shoes and the breeze whipped passed him.
He was so close.
The house was so clear, the lights were on and the windows were opened, the small hum of David Bowie falling from one of the bedrooms that he could only assume was Liliya's.
He opened the gate and walked inside, he walked up the front steps and knocked on the light blue door.
A woman with curly ginger hair answered with a big smile, "hello! How can I help you, dear?" She had a kind voice and held a rolled-up newspaper in her hands.
"Is Liliya home?" He asked, the woman's smile grew as she quickly said "wait here."
She closed the door on the boy, he stuffed his hands in his jacket pocket awkwardly and heard the muffled shout of the woman say, "Liliya someone's here for you!"
A few seconds later he heard someone running towards the door, Billy unconsciously smiled as he saw the familiar redhead open the door.
"Hi?"
"Hey..." He trailed off, he took in a deep breath. He was going to do it.
"Do you need anything?" She asked, an eyebrow raised.
"Do you want to go on a date... with me?" He asked, fiddling with his hands and looking towards the floor.
Liliya's mouth hung open for a moment before her cheeks flushed a dark red.
"Give me a moment," she hurriedly said, and for the second time that day, he got a door slammed on him.
He flinched at the door but waited a moment for her, Liliya rushed upstairs and ran over to her phone, quickly dialling the familiar number.
Before Bruce could even get a word out Liliya had begun, "he asked me out on a date."
"What?!" She heard the boy shout, it was obvious he was eating something as it came out a bit muffled.
"Yeah, he's at my door and asked me out."
"That's great!" She heard the ecstatic voice of Bruce on the other end and her smile grew wider.
"Do I accept? Do I not? What do I do!" The girl shouted frantically, earning a laugh from Bruce.
"Go for it!"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah!"
"Okay!" She exclaimed and slammed the phone back onto the hook. She grabbed her shoes from her wardrobe and rushed downstairs, she slipped them on quickly and walked over to the door.
She threw it open and was greeted by a smiling Billy, "so, where are we going?" She asked.
Billy grinned and glanced over her shoulder, "you should maybe get your skates."
Liliya nodded her head quickly before rushing back to her bedroom and grabbing her skates, then running back downstairs to Billy.
The two walked out of the house together, Liliya closing the door on her way out. She didn't need to tell her parents where she was going, as they were listening to the two from the other room like the nosy adults they are.
Billy saw the skating rink and his smile only grew, he felt really nervous to be going on a date with her.
He's hung out with her alone many times and yet this time it felt different, it felt right.

THE TWO PUT ON their skates, Billy used his skills from when Liliya taught him whereas Liliya skated with ease.
Billy fell over once and had brought the girl down with him as they were holding hands, but other than that the two didn't fall.
When the two were walking home their hands were still interlocked, the sun had set ages ago and it was currently dark. There was a comfortable silence between the two, very happy about the day to say anything more to one another.
"Do you think if we were to go on another date we'd last long?" Billy asked out of the blue.
Liliya glanced at him before looking back up at the starry sky, "it's best not to think about the future, instead, you should focus on the present."
Billy sighed, he knew that meant she didn't want to answer.
"I want you to know," he began, "I'd never trap you."
"I know," was all the girl said as the two fell into silence once more.
-
THE TWO HAD finally reached Liliya's house, all the lights except one were off and Billy still hadn't let go of her hand.
The two stared at one another for a moment, Liliya watched as Billy's eyes glanced to her lips before looking into her eyes once more.
Billy only had to move down slightly to reach her as Liliya was also leaning in, Liliya's eyes fluttered closed as the two's lips met.
It was a short and sweet kiss, the kind that you'd see in children's movies.
The two stared at one another once the kiss was broken, they both had flushed cheeks.
Liliya bit her lip and quickly said goodnight to him, she went onto her tiptoes and kissed his cheek before rushing inside.
She had the best nights ever.
