When Stars Fall (NaNoWriMo22)

Chapter 8

Nirvana has no idea what her sisters asked the bones, but she asked many questions in one go. None of her sister know that she has the power to do that. One could say that she cheated this little race of theirs. On the contrary! Nirvana believes that neither of the rules prohibited the use of her skills to any extent. After her other sisters had their turn, they took their share of their star and ate it. They each became beautiful and young. Strong and powerful.

In no time, they were all on their way to capture the Star. Nirvana asked the bones five questions. One question for each bone. The first, where was the Star? The second, what state was she in? The third, where could she find her next? The fourth, who was with her? And the last, how could she trap her? Nirvana has an answer to it all. She is quite confident in herself.

Nirvana finds herself portaled to a random forest in the middle of nowhere. The road is not far off from where she is now. She pulls down the hood of her dark cloak, revealing her vibrant purple hair. She hasn't seen it so lively for a good number of decades. She has missed her beauty. "Now, now." She pulls off her gloves, one finger after the other. "What to do?" Nirvana taps a finger on her newly dainty chin as she thinks. According to the bones, my Star will stumble along the main road soon enough. Only then will I be able to trap her and kill the boy.

She laughs at the irony of it. A boy from the other side of the Wall beat them to the Star! Of all things, a simple human boy took their Star. She wonders if her sisters know this minor detail. Nirvana smiles wickedly. I hope not, she thinks. Nirvana glances up at the sky and takes note of the sun's position. In just a few hours, she'll come face to face with her Star. Nirvana is almost jumping with excitement. She has time to make her plan better than anything she has ever done.

Realm Beyond has forgotten the power of her coven. It has been too long since she has tested herself beyond the limit. It is true that magic inhabits the lands of Beyond, but it has become docile. Domesticated. There is a reason why these three sisters stay hidden in their mountain. Away from the unenlightened. Those who have forgotten.

Nirvana certainly hasn't forgotten. It was actually a Star that had taught the people of the potential that was hiding in Beyond, ironically enough. They had taught her ancestors everything they wanted to know. It wasn't long before they had realized that the Star did not age. The mortals slowly became lustful for youth, for power. For more time. So, they took the Star apart. Nirvana laughs. It was beautiful!

And idea rings true in her mind as the plan becomes complete. That's it, she thinks carefully. Why not make it poetic? A homage to my ancestors. Honor for those who came before. A brutal end to poor soul that crashed onto the earth. I love the irony.

Ironic, indeed. Especially since she has purposefully forgotten the ending of the story, she believes her ancestors to be true. But 'tis was not so. Nirvana circles around the area. As she winds her hands in air, she smiles. A purple globe erupts from the space in between them. "Illumia will go green when I tell her how I got my Star!" She cackles at the image of her sister's face twist with envy. "Yes, she will learn who is the better sister. And dear Eleste won't do nothing but bow her head at her elder sister. They both will. Just as it was meant to be." She continues to laugh as the forest engulfs in purple shadows from her casted spell. Nirvana goes to work on setting her trap.

Miles upon miles south from her, there is another that seeks the Star that she so desperately wants. But this seeker is seeking something entirely different. Unfortunately for both, each want something that only one person holds. A diamond and a heart. They are each on their way to a conjoined path, both the seekers and the travelers. The Witch, a Prince, a Star and a Lover. Doom is nearer than they think it to be. Nirvana believes that she had gotten all the necessary answers to capture her Star. Did she truly?
