In the Summertime

My mom was sleeping on the couch, most likely passing out after she got home from work.

I ran up to my room and closed the door, then slid down it like some teenage girl in love. Whatever he was, he was definitely not straight. Someone who was straight would not breathe on my neck like that, or back me into a door to prevent me from leaving.

Yeah, he was definitely gay.

Which worked out for me perfectly. He was a gorgeous person and I would be happy to date him. But, there's always the rumors. And I would only drag Gerard down with me if I dated him. So...I guess I just need to stay away like his friends warned.

I was so happy that I was able to go over to his house though, I wanted to know what the inside looked like. He was loaded from what it looked like. The only thing that caught me off guard was the fact that Gerard's room was not decorated like the rest of the house. But maybe he just didn't like over-the-top things.

Over the course of the next week, nothing special happened. Everything was as normal as it could get. Nobody jumped me or beat me to death, so that was good.

Now it was Saturday, and I was bored.

Hey Frank, I was wondering if you wanted to come over for the day?

Sure, that would be nice :)

Do you want me to get there myself or are you going to pick me up?

I'll come pick you up, be ready by the time I get there.

It took half an hour for him to get here. I didn't mind the wait, it gave me plenty of chances to make sure I didn't look like I lived in a garbage can.

"You look nice."

"Thank you, I tried." I got in the car as I said that, making sure the seatbelt clicked.

"It's hot out, are you sure you want to be in long sleeves?" He looked over at me for a second before turning his eyes back on the road.

"Yeah, I'm...just a naturally cold person."

"Oh, alright." He didn't sound fully convinced, but the lie should work for now until I figure something else out.

It occurred to me we had been driving for a while, but we weren't at Gerard's house.

"Uh, where are we going?"

"To the park."

"Oh...ok" It was clear there was some hesitation in my voice.

"Why, do you not want to go?"

"No, no...it's fine, but can we just stay away from people?"

"Of course." He smiled over at me and continued driving.

After another 10 minutes had gone by, we pulled into a parking lot shaded by multiple trees, where a park was visible ahead. The whole park was shaded with trees, only a little bit being left out in the sun. There was a lake right next to it that had water lapping over itself to create an ocean-sounding space. If was really peaceful and relaxing. I'm surprised I didn't know about this park seeing as I go to the park closest to me. I didn't mind being out here though, it was a nice change of scenery.

I opened my door and stepped out into sand, then walked over to where to sidewalk was. Gerard walked over to me and smiled once again, then went over to a bench. I followed, and when he sat down, I sat down.

"What do you think, Frank? Isn't it peaceful?"

"I love it. I love parks in general but this one gives me a sense of relaxation. It helps me be alone with my thoughts."
