Chapter Four: Nora West-Allen

Central City, 2049, Nora West-Allen's Apartment

13 Hours Earlier

Nora stared down at the bowl of melted ice cream in front of her, the normally vibrant colors all diluted as they swirled together, into a liquidy mess.

I have to try and find a way to fix things! I have too!

She had had no luck so far with coming up with any ideas. Nora was so upset about what had happened yesterday that she really couldn't focus on coming up with a plan right now.

" And now I actually have no one," she thought aloud, as she remembered that Thawne had been executed last night. She couldn't even go to him to ask for advice, or help, or even just to have someone that would listen anymore.

He was always there for me. And now, I don't even have him anymore. I really am alone.

" Well, dad always said that eating warm melted ice cream could help cure emotional pain." Nora sighed, as she ate a spoonful of it. She immediately regretted it, and started to gag right away, even after only being a spoonful's worth of it..

" That might be how you feel better dad, but I can't stand eating that!" she exclaimed between coughs.

" How am I going to fix this?" she moaned as she put her head in her hands, a large frown worn across her face.

How do I manage to screw up this badly?

Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted by her phone ringing. For a split second, she thought that it could've been one of her parents calling, before realizing that her phone doesn't have a time travel texting plan, and that it was coming from her wrist communicator. She looked at the caller I.D. and saw that it was Detective Kurtis, the CCPD police captain of 2049, and her boss. " Well, I shouldn't ignore my boss, I guess." she thought as she swiped across the holoscreen and answered the call.

" West-Allen, I know I said you could have some time off because of what happened yesterday, and if you need that time, then no one's going to hold it against you. But there's been a big prison break, and we could really use a CSI here. If you think that you're up to the task," Kurtis said over the communicator.

"Wait, what happened yesterday?" she thought.

And then it hit her, adding on top of all the other things she was upset about.

Lia.

" Only if you think that you're up to it, though," Kurtis added, concern in her voice.

" Yeah, I'll be fine. I'll be at the station in less than an hour." she said, trying not to let Kurtis hear how upset she was.

After a minute or so of silence, Kurtis finally responded.

"Okay, but take it easy Nora."

" One bright side of all of this is at least I'll never be late for work now that I have super speed," Nora had thought.

But she was wrong.

Even with powers I still managed to be thirty minutes late!

She sped to the police station to find out what all the big news was about, her purple and orange electricity dissipating as she whipped up to the station.

" Funny. The outside looks like it has barely changed since 2019," Nora thought as she stopped outside of it.

" Snap out of it! You need to focus!" she told herself, as she tried to push her thoughts about 2019 and everything relating to it away. " You have a job to do!"
