Chapter One: Eobard Thawne

Central City, 2049, Black Gate Penitentiary

10:11 pm

Four minutes. He had four minutes left to live. Thawne watched as the clock ticked down, ever so slowly toward the count of zero, when he would cease to live. He had spent a lot of time in this cell, reflecting on his life and the achievements that he had accomplished.

It was funny thinking about how this had all started. He was obsessed with The Flash. He was his hero. This great do-gooder who always saved the day, who always put others first, the real definition of a superhero. And Thawne had wanted to be just like him. A hero.

Of course, that's not what destiny had in store for him though. It had much bigger plans for him. Through a series of events, he had discovered that he was destined to become The Flash's worst enemy, The Reverse Flash. The realization had nearly broken him, almost sending him into a crazed and insane state, beyond repair.

However, in time, it helped him realize who he was really meant to be; a villain. At least that's what others called him. In his eyes The Flash was most certainly no saint. After learning about this, he had committed himself to ruining The Flash's life, just as The Flash had ruined his. He gave himself powers, got a shiny new suit, and set out to destroy his new nemesis.

Years of fighting went by, with neither of them able to beat each other. Both evenly matched, hero and villain destined to be fighting each other for the rest of their careers.

Eventually though, he grew tired of the stalemate. He was done with of his plans being stopped by The Flash, who would always win in the end.

He wanted to do a blow so devastating to The Flash, that he would never recover. One that would cause The Flash to be no more.

So he went back in time to kill a young Barry Allen, The Flash. But of course the heroic Flash showed up to try to stop him. A fierce fight ensued between the two, creating a speed storm in Barry's childhood home. And he did stop Thawne from killer his younger self, but, try as he might, Barry was unable to stop the murder of his mother.

Oh, how happy Thawne was! A young Barry could never recover from the devastating loss of his mother! He had won for once!

However, he had a major failure in his plan. He got stuck in the past. All of his speed was lost in the time travel battle. This would lead him to having to reochristrate Barry Allen becoming The Flash, his worst enemy, which took decades of planning. Planning which failed.

Thanks Eddie.

He would try to fight Barry numerous times after his master plan failed, but they all were ineffective. Eventually, he would be captured by The Flash and put in here, Black Gate Penitentiary, where he had been for so, so, long. He thought that he would have nothing left to do in his life. He had lost hope. That he would never fully get his revenge. And then something happened that he would never have expected. The universe gave him one last chance.

In the final hours of his life, when everything had looked the most bleak, Nora West-Allen had visited him looking for help.

Ah, Nora.

So naive to everything around her. Unknowing of her father's second persona, that she had powers, of what the person standing before her had done. Thawne had wanted nothing to do with her to begin with. Barry's annoying little brat, coming crawling to him since she had no other options for a mentor, since her father had made the choice to leave her decades ago.

But she was persistent. Eventually she got him to help take down Godspeed. And after this, he started to take a small liking to the Little Runner, even getting a little bit attached to her. Although, that had never stopped him from crushing his allies under his boot before. He quickly formed a new idea for his escape, the pieces coming together perfectly like a game of chess. One which he was the master of.

And boy did it have its perks.

He continued to pretend to help Nora while not only hurting Barry by doing so, but also putting his own plan into action. The former appeared to have certainly gone well (based on Allen's reaction), but as for the latter, he had run out of time. By causing as much wear and tear on the timeline as he could, he had hoped that some of his other villainous friends would break through their timelines and come to his aid. It was a longshot, and it appeared that it hadn't worked.

If this is the end, at least I went out hurting you, Barry.

The lights in his cell suddenly began to flicker, turning on and off as the power to the cell weakened, until it finally gave out. Just as the power turned off, a blue blur broke him out of the cell and raced him across the city, Thawne's head shooting backwards slightly from the whiplash he'd just received.

As Thawne regained his bearings, he saw Hunter Zomolin, aka Zoom, standing before him, and a few seconds later, Savitar appeared as well, towering above the two villains. Even from here he could feel the implosion that had come from his cell when it had lost its power.

Those idiots really believed that they could hold me forever. Cute.

" I assume that this is your doing?" Zoom said in his terrifying voice.

Thawne took a deep breath of fresh air. Fresh air. It had been so long since he had been able to do that.

" There is a lot to discuss Zolomon, but rest assured, I have a plan. A plan that will finally bring The Flash of our time to his knees." Thawne began to cough and wheeze, until it got so bad that he had to lean against a nearby wall to support himself.

" I have been in that cell for so long, and been without my powers for just as long. I need to get them back before my illness gets worse. But that's also part of the plan."

"And when in your 'plan' do we get to hurt Barry? Because your master plans don't always have the best track record. And besides, isn't he already dead in this time?" spat Savitar.

"You should know better than anyone that time is always in motion." Thawne sneered at him.

" And as for your concern about my plan, you will learn soon enough, Pizza Face. First, we have two stops to make. A quick armory upgrade, and a new member that we might have some use for, as manpower at the very least."

A deep, evil smile set onto Thawne's face. It had really been too long since the last time he had been trying to kill Barry Allen.

Time was on your side, Barry. But now, your's run out.
