Chapter 13

Aria's pov

I walked alongside my mates at a quick pace. Alec tried holding my hand I saw, but I didn't try to hold back as I was too nervous. I loved our hug earlier but still embarrassed about it. I know I shouldn't be because we are soulmates and that is normal. We didn't even do anything too dirty, although maybe one day. I wouldn't mind. I wonder what he is like-

No bad Aria. Get your mind out the gutter. I blushed at my own dirty thoughts. Izzy looked at me and I shook my head. Anyway back to the point, Simon is missing.

"I still don't understand" Clary said

"How can Shadowhunters be better than...what you people call mundanes?" Clary said and stopped and we all stopped

She pulled me close to her and stared at my mates. Alec glared at her. Izzy rolled her eyes. Clary turned around, facing the other way.

"Because we protect humans" She said stepping forward

Clary sighed and turned back around facing us.

"You're right" She said

"Humans. You protect humans" She said

"You left Simon all alone in the van" She sighed angrily

"Great job, you guys. You rock" She said sarcastically

I didn't like her attitude towards my soulmates but I understood her frustration as she put her trust in them to look after her soulmate Simon. Still it is not all their fault and we will get him back.

"There is some truth to the idea that human beings should have a modicum of common sense" Alec said huffing

Clary scoffed.

"Alec, not now" Isabelle said

"Look, they won't do anything to Simon. They just wanted to draw you out. They want the cup and they think you two have it" Jace said

"But why do they think that?" I said

"Why does anyone think that?" Clary said

"What, our mum lies to us our entire life except,'oh, by the way there's this magic cup, I hid on like planet Bongo, but don't tell anyone.'" She said

Jace rolled his eyes and sighed. Clary sighed and looked at all three of my mates.

"What am I supposed to do now?" She said

"We have to report to the Clave" Alec said walking off

"Great" Jace said

"They have to know what we've learned about Valentine and his ex-mistress" Alec said

"What, that he's my father and she's Aria's mother?" Clary said stopping him

"For both your safety and ours" He said looking at me softly then hardly at Clary

"Great. Fine. Tell them" She said

"What good does that do to Simon? Huh? My soulmate is missing. I have no idea where he is, if he is ok and what is happening. I am worried about him and I miss him and we need to get him back" She said breathing heavily

I hugged her and she hugged me back breathing and leaning on me. I didn't mind very much because she's my sister.

"Clary, Aria. It is all connected. The Vamps want the cup." Jace said

"Why? It makes new Shadowhunters" I said

"Nobody wants Valentine forming an army loyal to himself." Alec said

"Plus, it controls demons" Isabelle said

"They'll propose a trade. Simon for the cup" Jace said

"So, vampires will trade Simon for the cup and Valentine will trade my mother for the cup." Clary said
