45.) You Bring Me Home

"Any minute now." Luz says quietly.

"We can do this. Just speak from your heart and I'll do the same." Ellie nods her head anxiously.

"I love Amity so much. But my mom, but Amity! I want to travel between realms, is that so wrong?" Luz starts.

"No, it shouldn't be! What's the point of getting stuck in a magical realm if you can't keep your found family?" She agrees.

"No, literally! Do you have your vials?" She asks.

"Yep, ready to be handed over." Ellie lifts them up to show her.

They turn back to face forward when the portal reappears. It glows blue around the edges just like before with multi-color themes around it. The same futuristic environment waits in front of them. At the same time, they both step forward into it. Then, the portal shuts behind us and applause fills the room.

"Welcome back." Mr. X slowly claps his hands.

"Mm...not for long!" Luz raises her finger and says loudly.

"Here are our vials. We would like to stay in the demon realm now." Ellie hands hers to someone who takes it.

"Well-" Mr. X starts but Luz interrupts.

"No! You need to hear us out you beautiful bald man." Luz passionately starts. "We had to leave ten years ago and we thought we could never go back. We regretted it, sure. But it was the right decision for the time. And now we have a way to go back! The truth is, I'm in love with Amity Blight! My awesome ex-girlfriend who might not be my ex anymore if you let us stay. Ellie?"

"Yes! And I'm in love with my awesom ex-boyfriend who, now that I think about it, doesn't really have a last name! His name is Hunter and he's a great person. And he makes me happier than I think I've ever been. We demand you let us go back to the demon realm and maybe even travel between realms." She puts her foot down.

"Yeah! And all of our friends are there. The Boiling Isles may not be the PG fantasy world I thought it would be. But we found so many people who made us feel seen. More seen than we've ever felt on earth. Here, we're weirdos. But over there, we aren't weird because of our interests. We're weird for being human!" She continues.

"We got you what you wanted. So please, let us go back to the demon realm." Elle pleads and we both go silent.

"Mr. X NEVER gets interrupted, let's get that straight. If you hadn't interrupted me, this would've all been over. I was going to say, we have made a collective decision. Our other three fire-starters pled the same case you two did." He starts.

"Sashannarcy." Ellie and Luz says wistfully at the same time.

"And we figured you two would think the same thing. So, let's make a deal. You stay there for the majority of the year. We bring you and maybe a few guests if you'd like back for the holidays. So long as they don't cause any trouble for our department. And maybe once every couple of weeks. We'll take care of your jobs and everything else. We'll send you with a wifi router we've been developing so you can contact us at any time. We will also send an instructional video on how to set it up. How does that sound?" He asks.

"Perfect!" They say at the same time.

"Good. We can send people to get all of your stuff and drop it off at the meeting spot in about two weeks." He tells them.

"Is going to Amphibia off the table?" Luz asks and Ellie turns her head curiously.

"Yes, totally off the table. But, maybe one day you might cross paths with the Amphibia squad when we pick you up for the Holidays." He smirks.
