27.) Found

"I think I've finally found it." Ellie announces to the room as they all sit around the tv, her leaning into Hunter's side.

"That's great! But you found what exactly?" Luz asks.

"My mom's instagram." Ellie says, not peeling her eyes off of her phone.

Hunter looks over nervously to see a woman on the screen. She's tall but doesn't look much like Ellie. They have the same nose and eye shapes but that's about it. Her skin is lighter than Ellie's and her hair isn't as curly. It elegantly falls down her shoulders in waves. But the memories she's shared of the woman doesn't do her any favors.

"I think I'm gonna add her," Ellie hums. "I'll DM her a perfect explanation of everything and hope she believes me. After that, maybe I'll remember her more. Maybe we'll even do mother-daughter stuff like get rid of our mustaches together."

"I think that's a great idea. If you need any help finding the words, let me know." Camila smiles.

Ellie has a brand new instagram because she forgot the password to her old one. This new one already has pictures of her and her friends. And of course, pictures of Hunter. He loves looking at her account. It makes them all look so happy, more than they really are. But he likes seeing her happy. Even though he knows she won't be one hundred percent happy until they get back.

If someone so much as looks at her swords funny, she gets defensive. They were Willy's gifts to her and she refuses to let anything bad happen to them. Not while she doesn't know if he's okay. But who knows, maybe this will be a fresh start with her mom. That's gotta be worth something even if she misses her dad. Because that's what he was, he was never just the captain to her.

So without giving it a second thought, she presses the follow button. She almost regrets it out of fear but then hits the message button. Now, the hard part.

"I love this show! Sprig has great voice actor too." Hunter gushes about Amphibia on the screen.

"What?" Ellie squints to look at the phone closer.

"Well, maybe not. I don't know much about voice actors." Hunter practically squeaks out nervously.

"No, no, you're right, that's not what I was talking about. My mom got married. Where the hell is my dad? Shoot, sorry, Camila." She sheepishly apologizes. It's hard to tell what words people's parents are okay with.

"It's okay, mija," She laughs. "I've said worse."

"It's true, don't fall for her act." Luz jokes.

"Ellie says worse all the time." Gus laughs with everyone else.

"Wow, just expose me, all of you." She smiles while trying to figure out what to say to her mom. No movie ever said it was this hard.

"Elle, what happened to your jeans?" Amity asks despite Ellie's frantic typing.

"Do you like them? I fixed them for her! I even used purple patches over the holes."
Hunter smiles.

"Wow, you are unbelievable. Do you think she's some kind of property you own? Just because she's your girlfriend doesn't mean you can control how much leg skin she shows." Amity starts a ramble.

"What?" Hunter gasps.

"Amity, it's fine he didn't mean it like that. We watched 10 Things I Hate About You last night if you couldn't tell." Luz laughs.

"Oh, sorry." Amity sheepishly apologizes.

Ellie just keeps typing her attempt at an explanation. By now she's at least two paragraphs in but it all sounds so far-fetched. Hunter watches her type it out, her looking up to see if he thinks it's good or not. He just gives her a small nod every once in a while or a smile. Just sitting with her like this makes him happier than she could ever know. She's safe and in his arms, he couldn't want anything else.
