"Is everyone ready?" Camila calls throughout the house.
"Si, mamá!" Luz runs out of her room.
"Remind me to never go blonde. I feel very aware of my hair now." Ellie tells Hunter as they wait for Willow and Gus in the living room.
"Taylor has to live with that every day." He nudges her with a laugh.
"Funny you mention Taylor and not yourself." She laughs.
"Oh, right. Hey, about last ni-" Hunter starts. The guilt has been practically eating him alive, they've barely spoken. And Ellie's talked significantly less which hurts his heart more than she could ever know. He's just lucky she's talking to him now.
"Don't worry about it. It's Halloween, it's a good day. You know Phoebe B- never mind." She starts before realizing she's doing it again.
"No, no, I want to hear. I want to hear everything you have to say. Seriously, you could go on for hours and I would listen to every word." He rambles.
"We're ready!" Willow says from the hallway.
"Let's get going then! I'll go start the car." Camila smiles.
"Ellie." Hunter grabs her wrist as she tries to walk away. His voice even goes softer than it has been all day.
"Dude, you're sending me so many mixed signals," She laughs even though it's not funny to either of them. "Let's just have fun! What I was gonna say wasn't important, it was just something dumb about Phoebe Bridgers."
"I love talking to you. I-" He almost finds a good time to say he loves her.
"Good thing we're headed to a social event then, right?" She smiles before turning around.
"Ellie! You look so cool! We need to take a picture later." Luz gushes as they start walking to the car together.
"You think so? I realized my armor already looked similar, I just added some extra flare." She gestures to the outfit.
"Hunter?" Gus says, pulling him out of his thoughts. "You coming?"
"Yeah, yeah, sorry. I just got distracted."
"Hey, Elle?" Amity walks up to join them.
"Yeah, what's up?" She asks.
"Is everything okay? You've been acting weird today. Is because you're missing the Grime to your Sasha? Or is it because your...Anne? Marcy? Or whoever is being weird too?" Amity asks.
"Let's just say all of the above." Ellie sighs. "But I would've had to force William into dressing up with me."
"He would've done it," Luz smiles. "You're literally just like his daughter."
"Last halloween I got him to watch Halloweentown with me. It was so nice." Ellie laughs as they finally get to the car where Camila is already inside.
"How do the kids not get run over?" Gus asks as everyone climbs in the car.
"Some do." Luz tells him and his eyes widen.
"Dios, don't tell him that. You just have to watch where you're driving and walking, Gus." Camila laughs.
"Tell me about Phoebe Bridgers." Hunter accidentally scares Ellie since he sits one row behind her in the van. It doesn't help that Camila started driving just a few seconds before.
"Oh my god." She gasps and he frantically apologizes. "She has a song called Halloween, that's all I was gonna say."
"I want to be so terrified tonight that I have nightmares!" Willow cheers.
