"REKI'S PULLING AHEAD!", Miya yelled, pleased by his friend's advantage, while Joe exclaimed, "This can't be!". Y/n grinned as she was the only one, along with Langa, to be aware of the colleague's special wheels trick.
"They're wheels for rainy weather!", the girl explained, grinning, before Langa spoke, "There are special grooves on them so he won't slip even in the rain.", he continued. "On the other hand, he'll be slower than usual in clear weather.", concluded the Canadian.
"So, that's why he was slow in the first half!", Cherry immediately understood, while a dazzling smile formed on Miya's face, "Then, he was predicting that rain would start falling?", he asked curiously. His eyes showed nothing but admiration for his friend.
"Reki was betting on this.", Y/n interjected, smiling softly, and then giggled, "How's it going, Adam?", she asked grinning at the man who obviously couldn't hear her from the screen, "Not even you can keep a good grip with normal wheels, right? ". The anger she had been holding back throughout the match was pouring out of her lips all at once.
"That's...", Cherry exclaimed, pointing to Adam as he prepared to hit Reki with his huge skateboard, "The technique that defeated Cherry!", concluded Joe, eyes wide. Miya was scared to death, "You shouldn't take that hit!", he screamed at the top of his lungs, hoping that somehow Reki wasn't stupid enough to take it full.
Y/n let out a terrified cry, covering her face with her hands for the umpteenth time. She squeezed her eyes shut and felt her heart skip a beat.
In an instant, Reki passed Adam, distracting him with his jacket as he slipped across the wet dirt. All the eyes of the spectators were completely open, except those of Y/n who, not hearing a single sound, decided to peek through her fingers. "Adam... tripped up?", someone asked in the audience and the girl covered her mouth, suppressing an ecstatic scream. "You're joking.", another one commented, followed by "Our Adam?", but the h/c ignored them.
At that moment she saw and heard only Reki. And he was... winning?
Cherry let out a giggle, catching Joe's attention. "Kaoru?", the friend called him and the pink-haired burst into a thunderous laugh, "Adam! Adam of all people!", he said, infecting him with his lightheartedness. "Serves Adam right!", the green-haired replied and Y/n showed him a thumbs up while grinning in amusement.
"All right! The slime defeated the evil overlord!", Miya celebrated, with the enthusiasm of a kid.
Suddenly, Adam got back on his feet and started chasing Reki at an out-of-the-ordinary speed, until he was almost completely behind his back. "What a guy!", Cherry commented in frustration, while Joe exclaimed "Hurry, Reki! He's coming in!".
"Reki's going to win.", Y/n commented out of nowhere. "What?", Miya asked her confused and she smiled, "There is no way that Adam will go back to being the undisputed idol of the" S ". Even if he wins this race, he won't be cheered by the crowds.". "Reki's the star, now.", she concluded, letting a grin form on her lips.
The two challengers found themselves in a tie, sweating to the finish line that would determine the winner once and for all. Reki even lost a wheel, but his efforts were recognized by the spectators that night.
"Adam won?", "You did good, redhead!", "Reki! His name's Reki!", "That was moving, Reki!", everyone cheered his name. It didn't matter who actually won the challenge because Adam's dictatorial regime had been definitely destroyed.
"He's not moving!", someone whispered and Y/n was the first to hear it loud and clear, so she immediately rushed to the boy's helpless body. "Reki!", she called him, waiting patiently for a reaction, but it was useless, he didn't move an inch.
"Are you okay? Reki!", she tried again and this time he laid on his back, laughing and screaming with happiness. The group of friends approached the two, curious about the situation. "Skating really is super fun, after all!", exclaimed the redhaired, making the h/c sigh.
"Luckily you're okay... You're really a reckless fool, you know that, right?", she asked him, rubbing her temples, then helping him to get up from the ground. "You had us getting nervous.", Joe continued, followed by Cherry, "I guess I'll alter my assessment for you.". Instead Miya, who in the meantime was drying his tears, decided to compliment him, "Not bad for a slime!", he said.
Adam rose from his miserable kneeling position on the ground, approaching the group of friends menacingly. Noticing that he was getting closer to Reki and Y/n, Langa stood in front of them to protect them. "Stop it, the beef's already over.", Joe invited him to leave.
Reki looked him straight in the eye with determination, "Joe said to me before... 'Don't ever end up by yourself.'", he then said. But Adam didn't answer right away, in his completely wet form retorted, "You really think that a nobody like you successfully fought back like that?".
Y/n gritted her teeth, ready to punch him, but Reki stopped her, gently taking her hand and stroking its back. The man with the red hat approached Adam, "Step aside! I will deal with you next!", the bluenette ordered him.
The man however didn't move an inch, "About the beef with Snow...", he began, "I'm going to forfeit.". His statement left everyone stunned. "What?", Adam asked and the man replied, "He's the most suited for you to regain your love.".
Y/n scrunched up her nose, feeling uncomfortable, and took Langa's hand in her free one. "They aren't implying something else that involves you, are they?", she asked to her friend, but he simply shrugged, "I'm just as confused as you are.", he replied.
"You said that I was all by myself?", Adam continued as his eyes became two slits under the mask, "That's correct. I'm the only one who exists in my world.", he explained. "However...", he then stopped, to cast a glance towards Langa, "... there will be a second one soon.". "We shall fall together because we are going to become Adam and Eve!", he concluded, casting a frightening aura on the group of friends.
Y/n couldn't help but frown in anger as she tightened the grip on Langa's hand.
