MIYA CERTAINLY DIDN'T EXPECT a sudden call from that old bag. They hadn't actually met for a while due to the many problems that had arisen within their group of friends in the meantime.

During their conversation on the phone, Y/n had revealed to him that she had met Reki, but the ravenette hadn't understood anything because the words that came out of her mouth were all stuck together and pronounced at a supersonic speed.
He hadn't even asked her to repeat, she would have told him everything about it once she got to his house for their usual "videogames party night".

Before his friend arrived, Miya decided to make himself presentable.
He wasn't sure why, but he had the desire to look like a man in her eyes, no longer a kid.
Perhaps, subconsciously, he was trying to look like Reki, that stupid slime who, due to his many personal problems, had kept his distance from his own friends.

The ravenette missed Reki, but he didn't know where to find him or how to contact him. It wasn't even his business in the first place since he had quarreled with Langa and not with him, so during those few days without his role model he felt frustrated.
He hated feeling helpless, it encouraged his belief that he was incapable and it fueled his insecurities.

Getting out of bed after managing to beat the level he had been focusing on all morning, Miya walked over to his wall mirror, carefully observing his appearance.
His heart took a stab when he saw a little kid as his reflection.

On the fragile glass, he appeared as a simple person. He had nothing that attracted attention in a particular way or that made him special in the eyes of strangers.
He didn't even share the same passion that Reki had for skateboarding: playing video games or practicing that sport were just hobbies to him.

Miya knew he was a monotonous, gray and boring person. Those were just a few of the reasons why everyone had abandoned him: he could become flawless in anything without ever committing fully, without feeling even a crumb of pleasure or satisfaction.
He was born with an immense talent but he saw it more as a curse.

The fact that Y/n had fallen in love with a much more sentimental and determined person like Reki was simply normal.
He knew from the start that he didn't stand a chance.

Still, his foolish heart hoped that one day she would turn to look at him, noticing how powerful his feelings for her were — or so he believed — and reciprocate them.
That was what she had told him, that someday someone would adore him just as he deserved.
But were his feelings really that strong if he was getting ready to lose her without even fighting, surrendering to his own insecurities?
