Izuku blinked his eyes open, he had no idea of how long he'd been unconscious but he knew it must have been a while considering how long he'd been in the void. Time seemed to move differently and whenever he was in there, time outside seemed to move faster.

He looked down to see tubes and IV's hooked up to him, it must have been bad if there was so much attached to him right now. Shifting, he turned to the side and to his surprise Yagi was sitting there, head rested against the bed with their hand in his own. The exhausted look on the mans face showed they hadn't gotten much sleep, if any at all.

As much as he didn't want to wake them, he had to get their attention so he moved his hand and instantly the man shot upwards.

Their eyes widening when they noticed him, making him smile slightly in amusement.

However, when he went to speak he winced feeling pain in his throat and nothing but a wheeze escaped. He tried again and the same thing happened, making panic slowly creep up inside him and it must have showed as Yagi hurried to get him to calm down.

"Calm yourself, young Midoriya." Yagi said firmly." I will explain the situation once Recovery Girl arrives, she's due to check on you any minute."

Almost on cue, the door to the room opened and the elderly woman stepped in, blinking when she noticed him and Yagi. Then she walked over, Izuku following their every movement as he tried to determine what was happening, why he couldn't speak. A few tubes were removed, before the woman settled into a seat.

"Alright, first thing is...you've been unconscious for just under a month." Recovery Girl stated and Izuku paled, that was more then he thought it would end up being." Secondly, while you were in your state of mind during the USJ, you were attacked and received injuries to your chest and throat."

He decided he didn't like where this was headed, but still he nodded to show he was listening.

"The wound on your chest was healed fairly easily, looking worse then it actually was." Recovery Girl said, before sighing." However your throat was another story, we managed to heal most of it...but your vocal cords had been practically shredded completely, as of right now...the chances you will ever speak again is slim."

Izuku's eyes widened, before he turned towards Yagi.

He was mute, he would likely never speak again. How was one supposed to react to the knowledge they would never be able to say another word, how was he supposed to live his life in silence like that. Sure he wasn't the most talkative person around, but he enjoyed chatting with Yagi and the Vestiges.

Fuck, he'd forgotten.

Some of the Vestiges hated him more then ever now, Yoichi had had to leave the area after the Tenko reveal and Sixth had to comfort a sobbing Seventh. It was not ideal, but for some reason the third user continued to stick with him, not budging on their words.

He was unsure of what he had done to earn the respect of the third user, but whatever it was had been a blessing in disguise. However now he was unsure if he wanted to live, losing his voice and the one of the only ways of communicating with the people surrounding him was hard.

'Midoriya, are you alright?' Third whispered into his mind and Izuku swallowed.' The others want to know if anything went wrong while waking up, plus...I sensed your distress.'

'I'm mute.' Izuku replied numbly, earning a sharp inhale from the third user.' I got hit in the throat and it destroyed my vocal cords, Recovery Girl doesn't think I will ever speak again...I didn't think I was this injured, I just thought....'
