As I watched Nia and Enzo from the doorway of the living room, things just felt right. Like a void has been filled.
Nia has soon forgotten about her teething pains whilst in his arms. I'm not sure quite how long I've stood watching them but strangely enough, I can see her being his world. I can see her growing up and having the best uncle. The family I never got. It's all I've ever dreamed of for her.
Even if things don't work out with my newfound family I know she always has him. And it feels so good to finally have someone I know I can depend on to keep her safe, hell even give their life as though she was their own. I know with Enzo she has that.
I can see the love in his eyes as he stares down at her, the joy. But I can also see the sorrow as well, the time he's missed, the time Rowan never got either.
"I had my suspicions you knew Enzo." Comes Vincent's voice.
I jump slightly, not hearing his approach and raise a brow.
"I just wasn't expecting the unspoken trust between you two." He says a hint of how shocked he is in his voice.
I turn to him wondering why it's taken him so long to have a conversation with me that wasn't mafia related.
"After knowing each other for years and being each other's shadow it becomes natural," I say nonchalantly.
He nods his head agreeing with me, "Will there ever be a chance for any of us to be that close to you?" He ponders.
I think it over for a second. I mean I'm no time traveller, but I'm not very convinced.
"I almost had a kid once," he pauses, emotion thick in his voice, " it uh, didn't pan out well um. Miscarriage."
His brows are huddled together and a frown is etched on his face. His eyes swirl with the u settling emotion of longing. Longing for what could have been, longing for what he almost had. Longing for a chance to prove himself.
"Trust takes time to build." I start.
He cuts me off, " I always tried looking for you, you know?" His eyes build with tears, not falling.
I don't know what to say, so many things running through my head. I mean I'd be willing but it's going to take time. I don't want to risk anything.
"Losing you, when mom took you, is the biggest dent this family ever had. It tore us apart, we all shrivelled up and re-sprouted into something unrecognisable."
I hear voices walking our way and Vin walks away before I can reply.
I'll give you a chance.
"Nova, hun?" My dad calls me from his standing position in front of the sofa.
I furrow my brows, why is everyone in here?
"We have a few details we need to brush up on before the English get here tomorrow."
