At this moment, Maya was conflicted. She was confused. But there was one thing she knew for sure, her heart had dropped, and it was silently breaking.

Maya took a deep breath and stood up, walking over to Carina and holding onto her hands, "I think you should go for it" she said quietly.

"W-what?" Carina said confused, "no".

"What do you mean no? This is your dream Carina".

"I'm not leaving you" Carina shook her head.

"You wouldn't be leaving me, I'd come and visit you".

"Visit me?" Carina screwed her face up as she took a step back and let go of her hands, "I'm not your parent that you see once a month Maya, I'm your fiancée, we're getting married for fuck sake".

"We can still get married, we'll just take time off work" Maya tried to reason.

"So you're okay with seeing me once a month?".

"It would be more than that".

"You don't have the time, the money you would waste" Carina shook her head.

"You think it would be a waste me paying to see you?" Maya began to get defensive.

Carina huffed, "no that's not what I meant. The flight to Toronto is nearly 5 hours plus flights last minute cost hundreds of dollars. Toronto is also three hours ahead of here".

"I can pay, I have the money Carina. I'm not just leaving you".

"I'm not leaving you either, that's why I'm saying I'm not going".

"Ugh Carina listen to yourself!" Maya shouted, "you're giving up something you've worked your whole life for!".

"Yeah for good reason".

"Just... just think about it".

"I have thought about it!" Carina raised her voice, "Maya if I move to this job, it's not a temporary one, I'd be uplifting my whole life to Canada. Are we going to spend the whole of our lives, our marriage life together apart? What happens when we have children? Are they going to live with me half of the year and half of the year with you?".

"I don't- I don't know... I just can't have you dismissing this because of me" Maya rubbed her head.

"I don't think we're going to get anywhere tonight..." Carina said and Maya nodded. There was a small silence until Carina added, "it's my decision anyway".

"Yeah and a pretty dumb one" Maya added, making the Italian angry.

"What is wrong with you? Are you telling me that if this was the other way round you'd take the job? Maya we spent two months away from each other and hated it" she shouted.

"I don't understand why you're throwing this away! I can't be held responsible for keeping you away from your dream! Why aren't you at least considering it? Why?!" Maya shouted back.

"Because I FUCKING LOVE YOU" Carina screamed and the room fell silent. They looked at each other for a moment, not saying a word.

"You're making a huge mistake" Maya said quietly, as she walked towards the door.

"So would you take the job? If you were me?" Carina asked, anger laced in her voice.

"Maybe I would" Maya spat back before storming down the hall. She didn't mean it, she was just angry. She didn't want Carina to leave, that's the last thing she wanted, but she couldn't bare keeping her away from something she has always dreamed about.
