Our first stop was a bakery. After all who wouldn't want a true French croissant? Though Kordelia and I weren't all that hungry we each ordered a croissant and some coffee, I got hot chocolate, and headed to the nearest store. The boys, uninterested, sat at the front eating there croissants while we tried on hats.
The French hats were so hilarious that the boys joined in too. Eeli tried on a big floppy pink one. It drooped past his eyes. I giggled. Kordelia placed a small one on her head. It was a yellow even brighter than her shoes. Avory snapped a picture. I grabbed one heaped with flowers. Kordelia chuckled. Avory grabbed a bright orange top hat with green and purple feathers. Now we were all on the floor laughing. I grabbed my phone from my bag and asked the salesman to take a picture. He didn't understand at first but when he got it he smiled and agreed.
"Dire le fromage," the salesman said. I didn't understand French but I got the gist of it. "Say cheese." We all smiled big silly grins and he snapped a picture. A perfect souvenir for the trip. I decided I would get as many souvenirs as possible and make a scrapbook at the end. We thanked the man and walked out of the store.
"Where to next girls?" Eeli asked, sitting on a bench and sipping his coffee. "The lingerie store?" He pointed down the road to a large store with advertisements of ladies in lingerie on the posters in front.
I giggled, "how bout there?" I pointed across the street to a simple clothing store. Agnès B. I already had some fun on mind.
We walked to the nearest crossing.
"Hold my hand while we cross the road, Lily," Eeli said smiling, "We wouldn't want you getting run over."
Even though I knew it was a joke I grabbed his hand and squeezed three times. My dad and I always meant that to mean I love you. I often used it with Eeli too. He squeezed back. When the walk light went green, we strolled across. I looked over at Kordelia. She and Avory were holding hands too. He had a big smile on his face like the kind smile you'd see if you gave a kid a cookie. I had always thought he was the perfect guy for Kordelia. Sweet and athletic with a six pack. They were a perfect match. As we neared the storefront both boys ran ahead to open the door. Avory reached it first and opened it.
"Ladies first," he said, but as we were still a few steps behind, Eeli took the opportunity and walked in fluttering his eyelashes and saying "Why thank you sir." Avory nodded and held in a laugh as he ushered us in after Eeli.
"Wow," Kordelia said, looking around. Wow was right. The clean rows of racks glistened and the mannequins were dressed perfectly. Kordelia looked over at me smiling and I smiled back. She was a bit of a tomboy but this store definitely caught her attention. The boys groaned.
"Now, now," I said, "Don't go getting upset." They didn't change their moods. "Well then, if you really don't want to then I guess we don't have to play the game." I glanced at Kordelia. She knew what I was talking about. The boys perked up. "Kordelia, why don't you explain?" I asked.
"Sure," she replied. I knew she just loved this game. I reached into my bag and pulled out four note cards and two pens as she begun to explain.
"We will all write our sizes on these pieces of paper," she began gesturing to my notecards. I gave one to them each, including Kordelia, and passed the boys the pens. They began to write. I glanced over Eeli's shoulder. He had written down a big 6 feet on his paper. Avory had done the same but with a 6.1. I giggled and Kordelia checked them out too. She laughed and the boys looked at us confused. Kordelia showed them her paper which had the real sizes we were looking for written on it. Shoe size, shirt size, and short size. They both immediately blushed and scribbled out their heights, replacing them with their sizes. I kissed Eeli on the cheek. He was cute when he was embarrassed.
"Now write your names on it," I said and they did, this time getting it right without further instruction. Kordelia held her hand out for the cards and I gave her mine with the boys.
"Now pick one," she explained after folding them up. She held her hand out. We all grabbed for one. "If you get yourself put it back and grab the other one. No one did so she grabbed it and opened it up. She smiled.
"Here comes the fun part," I said, "I'll start the timer for 15 minutes. You have that long to find a complete outfit for the person on your slip. We'll meet back at the dressing rooms." Hearing what they were about to do the boys grinned wildly. Not having yet opened my slip, I did so. Familiar sizes were scrawled across the top. It was Eeli's. I smiled.
Kordelia wandered over. "Eeli?" she asked, seeing my smile. I nodded.
"Cool," she said, "I got Avory. Wanna shop together?" I nodded again. I couldn't wait for the revealing.
