"So I have a question," Avory says, dragging me along on the beach. It's cold here so I snuggle into him.
"Yes?" I reply. I stop. We've reached the boardwalk. I sit down and lean back into him. He runs his hand through my hair.
"If you could have anything in the world, what would it be?" he asks me. I look into his eyes. They are bright green and staring at me intently. I stare back. He smiles.
"You," I say. And I mean it. "All of you," I add a I look over to Lily and Eeli. Having them, all of them, an Niomi and Kegan too is all I can ask for. They make me feel so warm and happy inside. So at home. No matter where I am in the world.
"Me too," Lily says and I know she's thinking the same thing. "You are all I could ever ask for. All I could ever want. You guys are like hot chocolate on a cold rainy day. You warm my insides even when it's cold outside. You make me happy even when I hurt myself or lose the game or don't pass my test. I feel like I can count on you. I feel like you complete me. What I don't have you do. Together we have it all. We fit like the pieces of a puzzle. And I sure love this puzzle." She turns to look up at Eeli and gives him a kiss. As she says. Each word I realize I agree with her. About all of it. A I can see it in the boys' eyes. We just work together. Like the different melodies of a song. We're inseparable.
