"Omg it's," I started, looking at the Parthenon through the open car door. Eeli let go of the door and held his hand out to me.
"Huge?" I nod. And it is. I knew this Greek monument was large but...
"Wow," is all I can say. It has taken my breath away. I struggle to get some precious I even back into my lungs.
"I agree," Kordelia says, stepping out of the other side of the taxi.
"Wow doesn't cover this," Avory adds. "It's magnificent. Extraordinary. It's majestic."
"And it was meant to be. It was built to honor the gods. Anything less and they would be offended. And then the Greeks' lives would become unlivable. Their lands would be obliterated. Destroyed by the Olympians. No one would be left living."
"Dramatic," Eeli says.
"And the Greeks made up all these stories?" Kordelia asks.
"Yep. And even more crazy, they thought their gods lived on the top of a close by, very climbable mountain and never bothered to check."
"Weird," Avory exclaims.
"So," Eeli says, "ready to explore?" We all nod, still staring at this enormous structure in front of us.
"Is that even a question?" I ask. He smiles.
"Let's go!" Kordelia yells. We walk up the slope. Careful not to touch anything that might break. Everything looks ancient. It all seems as if it could collapse beneath my fingers. Crumble into dust. We reach the top and I take in a deep breath. Slowly as to savor the moment i reach out my hand and touch one of the columns.
"This is all so," I stop to breath in. My lungs don't want to take in the oxygen. I've felt this before. My asthma has caused me to have trouble breathing multiple times. But this is different. This isn't because I've been coughing. It isn't because I've been doing too much exercise. This structure has taken my breath away. I feel insignificant next to it. But this feeling. This insignificance. It feels good. It makes my heart beat 100 miles an hour. It makes my stomach leap. I smile.
"Amazing?" Eeli asks.
"Awesome?" Avory questions.
"Excellent?" Kordelia adds.
"Yes," I say. "All of that. And more. It's magnificent. Powerful. Majestic. It's..."
"Indescribable," Kordelia says.
"Yes," I say,"and it's,"
"Beautiful," Eeli finishes, taking my hand. "almost as beautiful as you." I smile. I see Kordelia smirking at me out of the corner of my eye. I turn around to face Eeli.
"Well it's not as handsome as you. And it could never be," I respond. My cheeks turn red. His follow suit. He kisses my cheek and squeezes my hand. Three times. I-love-you. I look up at him and smile.
"I wonder if Aphrodite's looking down on us right now," he says.
"If she is I hope she's blessing us."
"Oh, she is," he says. And he kisses me.
