"They should be here any moment now," I said pulling Eeli's simple jeans and blue shirt closer. I had picked up the jeans first, knowing they would go with anything, but the shirt had been harder to find. We had walked all over the store and nothing had grabbed my attention until I had spotted that shirt. It was a perfect turquoise blue, my favorite color and had a Polar Bear drinking coca cola on it. Kordelia had laughed when I had chosen it. I loved polar bears with all of my heart. I had almost since the beginning of time. I remember the oversized stuffed animal polar bear we had bearsat when I was just a kid. I had loved it.
I looked over at Kordelia. She was hugging her outfit to her chest. She had picked out a black vans shirt and some camo cargo pants. She had also gotten him some black shoes since she was always teasing Avory about how his shoes never matched the rest of his outfit. I could tell she hoped he would buy those.
The boys appeared around the corner. They both carried dresses, shoe boxes, necklaces, and hair accessories. Eeli walked over to me and handed me his pile. Ironic, I thought. What were the chances of all getting our matches. I handed my pile to him. He smiled when he saw the polar bear.
"What?" I exclaimed, "You look good in blue."
He smiled. "Because that's the only reason you chose a shirt with a polar bear on it."
I looked over. Kordelia and Avory were exchanging clothes too.
"Now we try them on." I walked to the nearest dressing room and closed the door, making sure it was locked before I walked over to the small bench and dropped my pile down on it. First task, check out what he got me. I pulled out the dress. It was white, though he said I looked better in black, and while the front only reached my knees, the back fell down to my ankles. It was made of two materials. A shear one that cover the whole dress, and a silky opaque one that stopped right before the bottom of the front of the dress. I let my eyes run the dress down. The top was beautiful. The thin straps were formed by small spring flowers in blues and pinks and purples and yellows sewn carefully into the silky fabric. The flowers continued covering a centimeter or so past the top helmline of the dress. They also covered the bottom, starting more clustered at the hem and getting more disperse as the crawled up the material. It was beautiful. I put the dress down and opened up the shoe box. Inside were a pretty pair of lacy white flats. Just like the dress, they had flowers lining the top part that would border my feet. The same flowers ran along a hair band but this time they were 3D and were intermingled with pretty little leaves. But what I loved most was the necklace. It was simple. A silver chain with a rounded heart shaped pendant. The thing was it wasn't just a pendant. It was a locket With a spot for a picture inside. I immediately resolved to buy it for myself.
I slipped into my dress and walked out into the dressing room lobby area. Eeli and Avory were already there. Kordelia was just emerging. She had also been given a dress. Hers was the same shape as mine but fully opaque and more of a cream than a white. Just like the design of the flowers on the skirt of my dress, she had little yellow flowers growing in size and slowly becoming more and more scattered as they made their way down the dress. Her feet were adorned with simple yellow flats with flower cut outs all over the shoe. Avory had found her a yellow flower clip for her hair and a small golden chain with a gold guinea pig charm to accessorize (she bred guinea pigs). She looked beautiful.
And the boys looked handsome. Eeli grinned wildly at me as I spun in a circle letting the dress flare out. I felt like a princess showing off for my prince. But I didn't have to be home by midnight. This wasn't my one day to dance with my prince. I would have forever and ever.
I stood looking at my boyfriend. It felt good to have someone like him. No matter what problems we faced we had each other. He had me and I had him. And Kordelia had Avory. And they were standing there looking mighty cute in the clothes we had chosen for them, gazing up at us with sly grins.
"What?" Kordelia and I asked, simultaneously. We both knew our boys so well. They only smiled like that when they were up to something.
"Oh nothing," Avory replied. They both grinned wider and Avory began to whistle. Eeli followed suit although his whistle was more of a spitting between his lips.
Kordelia laughed. I narrowed my eyes at them. She laughed again.
"Come on Lily, give em some grace," she said, "They're only mischievous boys with an evil plan. Nothing at all wrong with that." She spun around and walked back into the dressing room, closing the door behind her.
"I've got my eyes on you," I said playfully, then with a grin I returned to my dressing room too.
Behind the door I slipped out of my dress, took off my shoes, slid off my hair band, and unclasped the locket. I carefully placed it all in a small pile. I didn't want to let it go but Parisian clothes were expensive. Having put my normal clothes back on I walked out and sadly put my discards on the rack for clothes to be returned. I turned around and walked over to the bright pink stuffed poof in the middle of the dressing room. That was funny. Eeli wasn't here but there was only one occupied dressing room. Avory was missing too. Kordelia appeared from the dressing room and carefully put her outfit on the rack too. She turned back to me, her face scrunched up with confusion.
"They better not jump out on us," she said. I heard a groan. Kordelia whipped around towards the wall that separated the dressing rooms from the rest of the store. Her eyebrows were raised.
Slowly but surely, Eeli and Avory walked out holding bags of clothes in their hands.
"We thought you might like to have the outfits," Avory said, "You know for tonight and all."
I smiled. We both nodded.
"Good," Eeli said, "Cause this store doesn't have refunds."
