"How long has she been out for?" Ezran inquired, glancing at Callum watching Rayla.
"Two days." Soren mumbled.
...
Callum watched Rayla shift in the healer's bed, clearly uncomfortable. He brushed his hands through her white silvery hair. Even after 2 days of not washing it it's still soft as heck.
"Rayla." He whispered. "Please wake up, we need you, I need you. Please, I love you."
With that she stirred slightly, opening her eyes only slightly. He immediately grabbed a hold of her hand and squeezed it to let her know that he's there.
"Callum?" She croaked. He gasped and got up, not really caring about his injuries at the moment.
"Rayla!" He exclaimed, sitting down next to her. He tried not the wince, he really didn't want to worry her.
He carefully examined her breathing before letting out a breath of his own. She took him in, happy tears sliding down her face.
She turned and gave him a small smile. "That fall must've really hurt you."
He chuckled and wiped her tears with his available hand. "Yeah it hurt like hell, but I rather feel pain so that you're not alone."
She cracked a smile. "I really don't deserve you."
"You really don't."
"Hey!" She shoved him lightly so that she doesn't hurt his injuries.
"Well I did save your life a couple of times." He reasoned, a smile never leaving his face.
Rayla gasped. "So did I, I saved you from ma crazy ex!"
Callum grinned. "I guess we'll call it even then."
But before they could talk anymore the healer came in. Callum groaned internally, of course it was going to be the one that kicked him out before. She had a clipboard tucked in her arms, and she wore a grave face.
"I need to talk to you guys about Rayla's..... injuries."
Callum began fidgeting with Rayla's wedding band, suddenly having a bad feeling.
"What's wrong?" Rayla asked sitting up, wincing from her injuries. Callum looked at the healer, worried. The healer cleared her throat and gently sat on the bed. She turned to him.
"May I have a word outside?"
Callum nodded nervously and stood up to follow the healer. He limped to the door, glaring at the healer. He took one last glance at rayla before closing the door. He leaned against a wall, wanting to cry from the pain. Callum looked at the healer, fear rising from the pit of his chest.
"How's your injuries prince Callum?"
He huffed and crossed his arms. "They're terrible."
The healer smiled to herself, making Callum loose his last ounce of patience.
"Well?"
The healer took a deep breath. "There's no easy way to say this. But because of the attack her body was damaged so much that she's infertile."
"But once I had visions of our kids." He reasoned, confused. The healer shook her head.
"I'm sorry."
His heart stopped, time stopped. They can't have kids, they can't have an heir. Their future, all those wonderful things. Rayla was just fawning about kids names last night, how was he going to tell her? How was he going to tell Ez?
And Runaan and Ethari, they'll be heartbroken.
"Are you sure?" He stuttered. The healer look down, nodding her head.
He looked up at the healer, tears pooling in his eyes. Callum turned to slowly open the door and then proceeded to walk towards Rayla. She sat up, fear in her eyes.
"What did she say?" She asked, fear evidentially in her voice. Callum sat on the bed, tears in his eyes.
"Rayla, there's no easy way to say this."
"Then say it already!" She snapped, which made him want to cry even more.
"Rayla.... you can't have kids."
The scream that came next was enough to break his heart.
