The sun seeped through the blinds, causing me to flinch as my eyes fluttered open. I wasn't ready to get out of bed yet, but I guess my day had to start sometime. I pushed myself up slowly, sliding to the edge and letting my feet gently fall to the floor. Just before I walked out to the living room, I grabbed my phone off of the bedside table, eager to check it.
Well, part of me was eager. The other part dreaded it. I flipped it over and unlocked the screen, only to be met with no notifications. Or texts. That's what I had been hoping for: a text. Niall hadn't contacted me in weeks and I was beginning to really worry. We hadn't been dating long, but he still mattered to me.
He more than mattered.
I was in love with him.
I was trying not to worry; he had said that he had some stuff to take care of, but I just didn't understand why he couldn't talk to me.
I trudged out to the living room in my plaid pajama pants. I would have out a shirt on if I had known that I would find Zayn and Louis curled up on the couch. Zayn had been staying over lately. Louis had been sneaking him through his window at night; he thought I didn't know, but the walls are pretty thin in this place. I eventually told him that I didn't care; he should have known that by now, anyways.
"Like old times, eh?" I snickered as I plopped down in the armchair that sat adjacent to the couch they were spooning on.
Louis' eyes shot open as he sat up quickly. Zayn arose slowly, rubbing his eyes as he let out a small yawn.
"Sorry, Haz. We must've fallen asleep watching a movie..." Louis explained.
"There's no need to apologize, Lou. Now tell me, are you always the little spoon?"
He threw a pillow at me as I laughed hysterically at my own joke; Zayn found it funny too, which pissed Louis off.
"Assholes," he muttered under his breath as he got up to get himself some breakfast.
"Use a bowl, Lou!" I shouted from my position in the chair.
"He never does," Zayn answered.
I checked my phone yet again, thinking that I felt it buzz in my pocket, only to find nothing when I unlocked it. Louis walked back into the room with a bowl in his hand and plopped back down beside Zayn. He shoved the spoon into his mouth while nodding over at me.
"Have you heard from Niall lately?"
I shook my head slowly. "Not for at least two weeks. He said he had some family stuff to take care of, but he won't tell me what it is. He won't tell me anything. He won't even reply to me.
Louis and Zayn eyed each other as he slowly brought another bite to his mouth. He chewed slowly, his eyes still locked with Zayn's.
"Okay are you two having a moment or something? Cuz you're both being insanely weird right now."
Their gaze broke, Louis clearing his throat.
"Uh...Haz?"
I looked up at him, eyebrows raised.
"We, uh...well, Zayn...um..."
"Spit it out Tommo."
He looked back over at Zayn, his eyes pleading with him.
"Louis."
He let out a heavy sigh.
"Harry, it's about Niall."
I immediately perked up at the sound of his name. I hoped they had heard from him or seen him or something. I couldn't bare all this secrecy and not knowing.
"He, uh..."
Zayn cut him off.
"Harry, he can't possibly be dealing with his family."
My eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"I mean, he hasn't spoken to his family in years. They disowned him. He doesn't even know where they are living right now and I doubt that even if something was wrong, they would contact him. He's on his own, Harry. This is all impossible, what he's telling you. I don't know what's wrong, but he hasn't even said anything to me about it and I don't know what that's supposed to mean."
I just stared at Zayn from across the room, unable to speak after the bomb he just dropped on me. My mouth hung open for a moment as I tried desperately to compose my thoughts.
"How...what is this even supposed to mean?" I rambled.
Zayn's eyes grew heavy. "I don't know, but you need to go find him and talk to him. I don't know what's going on with him. But I think we all need to know whether he's okay or not."
Zayn was right. I needed to find him, before something did happen to him. Niall might be okay right now, but I wasn't.
