(This is gonna be a cute chapter so I hope you guys will enjoy this)!
The next day, Lestat and I were waiting for nighttime to arrive. It was still well early into the afternoon. I honestly couldn't wait to have a new companion if he accepted. Well, technically he wouldn't be mine since I'm not tied to him. Lestat would be. Still, with the both of us, he'd be ours.
"Patience, darling. Patience." Lestat muttered. I smiled at him and giggled. He has to remind me everyday that he can read my mind. I haven't gotten any powers yet. I don't know if I ever will. I couldn't read minds like Lestat or levitate like him. I couldn't walk on walls like he can. What could I do? Could I even be a good vampire without any powers? I tried to let these thoughts escape my head, but I was too late.
"Chérie, you are a tremendous vampire! The way you kill is absolutely breathtaking. I love watching you." Lestat reassured me. I chuckled. "Well that sounds really creepy, chère." I giggled. "Amour that's how I met you! By watching you!" Lestat defended. I giggled and ruffled his blonde, fluffy locks. He smiled and excused himself for a moment.
I took this time to read my favorite play, "Romeo and Juliet." I saw a production of it back when I was 5 in 1770 and immediately fell in love with it. I began longing to have a love like theirs. One where we'd love each other unconditionally, no matter what happens. I used to bother my parents while reciting the play and would constantly act as Juliet. That might've partially been the reasoning as to why they set me up with Georges. So that I could have a love that the two characters had, though that wasn't the case.
I felt two pairs of arms around my neck and smiled, knowing instantly who it was. I looked up at him and smiled, kissing his cheek. "What are you reading, love?" Lestat asked, looking at the play. "It's my favorite play called 'Romeo and Juliet' by William Shakespeare. It's very wonderful." I answered.
"What is it about?" Lestat asked. "It's about two people named Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, who live in Verona, Italy. The Montagues and Capulets are enemies and they have a feud with each other. One day, Romeo sneaks into a ball run by the Capulets after being persuaded by his cousin Benvolio and best friend Mercutio, in hopes of meeting Capulet's niece Rosaline, whom he has an unrequited love for. Instead, he meets and falls in love with Juliet. After Romeo watches Juliet on her balcony vowing her love to him, he speaks with her and they agree to marry." I began explaining.
"So, it's a love story?" Lestat asked. "Indeed it is. However, there's more to it." I added. "Tell me the rest." Lestat urged. I began explaining again. "The following day, the two marry with help from Friar Laurence, who is hoping to reconcile the Montague and Capulet families through their children's union. Soon enough, Juliet's cousin Tybalt is very angry at Romeo for sneaking into the ball so he challenges him to a duel. Romeo refuses, so Mercutio fights in his place. He is eventually killed by Tybalt and swears a curse on both families. He says 'a plague o' both your houses.' Romeo kills Tybalt after feeling immense grief and guilt. Shortly after, Prince Escalus, the ruling prince of Verona, exiles Romeo due to Tybalt's death and punishes him with death if he ever returns." I explained.
"Tybalt deserved it." Lestat mumbled. I giggled and nodded in agreement. "Romeo secretly spends the night in Juliet's chamber, where they consummate their marriage. After Romeo leaves, Lady Capulet misinterprets Juliet's grief and agrees to marry her off to Count Paris, Prince Escalus' kinsman. Paris had asked Juliet's father to marry her in the beginning of the play, but Capulet tells him to wait two years. Juliet refuses to become Paris' bride but Lady Capulet threatens to disown her. She pleads for the marriage to be delayed, but Lady Capulet refuses." I continued.
"Juliet visits Friar Laurence for help, and he gives her a potion that will put her into a deathlike coma. The Friar promises to send a letter to Romeo to inform him of the plan so that he'll rejoin her when she awakes. On the night before the wedding, she takes the potion. After being discovered seemingly dead, she is laid in the family crypt. The Friar's message however, doesn't get delivered. Romeo learns of Juliet's apparent death from his servant. Heartbroken, he buys poison and makes his way to the Capulet crypt. He encounters Paris, who wanted to mourn Juliet privately. They begin to fight after Paris believes him to be a vandal. Romeo kills him and steps inside the crypt, where he drinks the poison. After Juliet awakens, she discovers Romeo dead. She then stabs herself in the heart with his dagger and joins him in death. The families and the Prince meet at the crypt and discover them. Friar Laurence then recounts their story of the two 'star-cross'd lovers,' which fulfilled Mercutio's curse. The families have reconciled after the deaths of their children and agreed to end their feud." I finished.
Lestat remained silent for a moment, taking in the story. "That surely is something." Lestat said after a moment. I nodded in agreement. "I already knew about the play. I just wanted to hear you talk about it." Lestat chuckled. "Really?" I asked, giving him the side-eye for letting me tell it to him when he knew it already. He nodded while chuckling. "I was a theater actor, my love. Of course I know this play." He shared. I gazed at him in surprise. Now that was amazing. "Will you read it to me?" He asked. I smiled brightly and nodded excitedly. This is a great time killer. Lestat stood up and laid on the couch and I laid on top of him, my back to his chest. Lestat is illiterate, so I would read things for him while also teaching him. I began to read. I didn't know how long it had been, but I came across Romeo's line after he saw Juliet.
"Ne'er saw true beauty till this night."
Lestat looked down at me. "That's what I thought when I first saw you." He said. My cheeks felt hot and were flushed a bright red. I cuddled into him and smiled as he kissed the top of my head. This is what I had always longed for ever since I first saw and read "Romeo and Juliet." I longed to have a love like theirs and I wanted so terribly to have my life be like a Shakespearean story.
I finally achieved that with Lestat. My Romeo.
(I want a relationship like theirs! Someone give me that! XD I hope you guys enjoyed this! See you soon)!
