Sirius dragged Remus outside, while James pulled Peter.

"Come on, it'll be fun!" they exclaimed.

Remus raised an eyebrow. "Exploring the Forbidden Forest is your definition of fun?"

"YES!" Sirius answered. "Please?" he asked, giving Remus his best puppy dog eyes.

"Ugh, fine." Remus groaned, rolling his eyes. They followed James into the Forest, where the trees loomed over them. They split up and went different directions.

A few minutes later, Sirius was about to climb a tree when a deer came over, nudging him.

"Oh, hey, mate!" he said, patting him on the head. The deer nudged him again.

Finally, they decided to go back to the castle. Remus and Peter were wandering around and looked up when they saw Sirius and the deer.

"Let's go," Sirius said, shoving the deer in the general direction of the castle. The deer seemed to dislike the idea of leaving and fought hard not to go, but eventually with the combined strengths of Sirius, Remus and Peter, they hauled it out.

"Come on, James, this isn't funny, you KNOW we can't get caught!" Remus muttered, wringing his arms around nervously. "Why aren't you transforming back?"

"What if he can't change back?" Peter squeaked.

"I hoped it wouldn't come to this, but," Sirius started dramatically, "I think we need to smuggle him back in."

Remus facepalmed. "Duh."

The marauders were pushing the deer inside, the Invisibility Cloak covering its head, since it was a deer the cloak didn't cover that much.

Professor McGonagall looked into the hallway, witnessed the three boys shoving a headless deer past her doorway and promptly decided it wasn't her problem.

Finally Sirius, Remus and Peter managed to drag the deer into the Gryffindor common room, and it was there they began to wonder if the deer was James after all. But the deer kept doing James-like things and then they spent the rest of the afternoon pondering over whether it was James or not. If it was, was he messing with them? If it wasn't, did they just kidnap a deer?

James burst through the portrait into the common room two hours later, panting. He looked up with an offended expression.

"I can't believe you guys just left me!!!!! I was looking all over for you!" he yelled at them.

Remus asked, "Are you alright?"

James looked over to his bed where the deer was lying. "Wait why is there a deer in my bed?"

He gasped indignantly.

"Did you repLACE ME?!"
