(A/N: by the way, this is told from the point of view of Calliope Taylor, my OC, the other OC is Evander Thompson. yes, I am an avid Hufflepuff. again, sorry for updating late!)

I dashed down a corridor with my best friend, Evander, on my heels. We had just narrowly escaped the clutches of Mr. Filch and and Mrs. Norris, and after we were sure we'd lost them we paused, taking deep breaths.

"Well, that was fun." I grinned.

"Betcha there'll be nothing as interesting as this for the rest of the week." Evander smirked.

Dozens upon dozens of students turned to face Professor McGonagall as she spoke to the crowd.

"Evacuation will be overseen by Mr. Filch and Madame Pomfrey. Prefects, when I give the word, you will organize your House and take your charges in orderly fashion to the evacuation point."

The students looked terrified. But at my table, Ernie Macmillan stood up.

"And what if we want to stay and fight?"

I could hear a lot of people clapping.

Professor McGonagall continued to talk about the evacuation procedures, but then a different voice echoed through the Great Hall.

"I know that you are preparing to fight." Students were talking in panicked tones around me, trying to find where the sound came from. "Your efforts are futile. You cannot fight me. I do not want to kill you. I have great respect for the teachers of Hogwarts. I do not want to spill magical blood."

There was silence in the Hall now, the kind of silence that pressed against the eardrums, that seemed too huge to be contained by walls.

"Give me Harry Potter," Voldemort said, "and they shall not be harmed. Give me Harry Potter and I shall leave the school untouched. Give me Harry Potter and you will be rewarded. You have until midnight."

The silence rushed over the Hall like a wave. I saw Harry Potter, looking lost whilst everyone stared at him. Oh, how I was glad not to be paid attention to like that.

But then someone rose from the Slytherin table and I recognised Pansy Parkinson as she screamed, "But he's there! Potter's there. Someone grab him!"

Harry opened his mouth to speak, but before he said anything, the Great Hall shifted.

Now, together, the Hufflepuffs, the Ravenclaws and the Gryffindors faced the Slytherins. Wands emerged.

"Thank you, Miss Parkinson." said Professor McGonagall in a clipped voice. "You will leave the Hall first with Mr. Filch. If the rest of your House could follow." The Slytherins at the table left.

The Ravenclaws were next, but a group of Ravenclaws stayed behind. Us Hufflepuffs were after, yet many of us stayed, because Hogwarts was our home and we would not leave it so soon.

Half of Gryffindor stayed where they were, and Professor McGonagall even had to get some of the underaged wizards out.

People started talking battle strategy, and I rushed to the kitchens where some of the other Hufflepuffs were waiting.

"Ok, guys!" one of the older Hufflepuffs said. "There are still a lot of students, and since we're the forgotten house," at this, everyone nodded in agreement, "and Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and probably some Slytherins are fighting out there, I think it should be our responsibility to help get them out. When you guys are done, we meet at the Room of Requirement."

Everyone nodded, and I rushed through the hallways, looking for any stray or lost students.

Occasionally, I would see a younger student here and there, and I helped them find their way outside. I even glimpsed Harry Potter sprinting in the opposite direction at one point. But after a bit, there didn't seem to be many students left and as I was making my way to hopefully the Room of Requirement, I turned a corner quickly, crashing into someone.

"Oh, sorry I-" I looked up and found myself looking into a familiar pair of hazel eyes.

"Evan! Thank goodness!" I exclaimed. He grinned back. Just then, his eyes locked on something behind me, and he raised his wand, pushing me out of the way. "Petrificus totalus!" he yelled, sending a spell towards an intruder who I hadn't noticed creeping up behind us.

"We have got to go somewhere safer," Evander grabbed me by the arm. I could tell he was scheming again. He would have been put in Ravenclaw for sure, if not Slytherin.

"Do you have any hiding spots where we could still cast spells and survey the Hogwarts grounds below?"

Oh, I saw where he was going.

"Do I ever!" My mischievous smirk matched his. "Hufflepuffs are particularly good finders, you know."

I led him through the halls. "First, we have to make a stop."

We entered the Room of Requirement, where other Hufflepuffs were already waiting. Some nodded, acknowledging Evander and I, and the decided leader of the Hufflepuffs here, Neha (also one of the prefects) concluded that enough people were here, and stepped up on a chair.

"Everyone!" she exclaimed. All eyes in the room turned to her.

"We did it! Students are evacuated, and now we get to join in on the fun." There were scattered chuckles.

One person spoke up. "Why don't we take them by surprise?"

"That is a great idea!" Neha declared. "Hufflepuffs! We will use the element of surprise and defeat those Death Eaters! Find a good hiding spot, you can do it! Good luck everyone!"

The crowd in the Room of Requirement dispersed, and soon enough everyone was gone. Meanwhile, Evander and I had found a spot (actually it was mostly me but whatever) and we were perched on a high ledge in one of the hallways, safely tucked out of sight. No one could see us unless we dropped right down on them.

"Remember when you said you bet there wouldn't be anything as interesting as this for the rest of the week?" I grinned, referencing his comment a couple of days ago.

He made a face. "Oh, yeah."

And then... we waited.

We had no idea if we were going to live or die, but whatever the case, we were gonna have fun doing it.
