We were now on the road about 15 minutes in when I continued the story we both already knew...
Once we got in the car I ask him, "where are we going?" "The drive-in." He says proudly. He had most likely asked one of his buddies where he should take a girl for a first date without considering what unholy things happened at a drive-in. It didn't bother me. I had been with my friends once before and we witness two of our teachers making out and we vowed never to go back but Bobby doesn't need to know that. He seemed all confident and I didn't what to ruin that.
He had one of those trucks where there's no armrest in the middle so if I wanted to I could move closer to him but he looked just a little bit nervous so I kept my respectable distance. "Wonder what's on tonight," I question trying to clear the awkward silence. " Romeo + Juliet. You know the one with Leonardo DiCaprio." He admittedly. This boy was taking me to a cheesy romance movie. He already has my heart. "I love that movie. DiCaprio was my celebrity crush when I was like ten." I laugh, trying to make Bobby feel better about his choice of a date spot. I also thought it was kind of interesting that Bobby kinda looked like Leonardo DiCaprio. Maybe I have a type.
When we eventually got there, we saw that no one was there. At all. He backed his truck into a spot so that we could sit back there to watch. Smart man. We parked fairly close and unbuckled our seat belts. According to Bob, the movie wasn't gonna start for another fifteen minutes so I asked him if he wanted to get any popcorn. He said yes. Thank god. We got out of the car and I looked up and saw the beautiful stars. Gosh, I love living here, in the country. Don't get me wrong, Charleston is great but you can't get these views there. By the time I dropped my head, he was standing right in front of me. "They sure are pretty." I gawk. "Not as pretty as you." He mutters. Why is he so perfect? Who wouldn't want a man who says cheesy pick-up lines to them? I begin blushing so I start walking toward the little store, hoping he would follow. He did. Like a little puppy dog. As he caught up to me, he asked one of the sweetest questions I had ever heard, " I-uh... can I..hold your hand...please?" "I'd love that." I took his hand into mine. Man is his hand warm. When we get to the little store, I ask him what he wants and he says he wants a Dr. Pepper. Good choice. I tell the cashier that I want a large popcorn and two Dr. Peppers. When the cashier said the total I began to grab my wallet out but Bobby placed some money on the counter. "Bobby it's alright I asked you if you wanted popcorn," I say getting the right amount of money out of my wallet. "I insist." He says pushing his money toward the cashier. I look at him in his beautiful bright blue eyes. Damn those eyes. They talk. I finally back up and let him pay. "Well, thank you," I say grabbing the popcorn and drinks. "Anytime sweets." He whispers into my ear as grabs his drink out of my hand and I just can't anymore. Pet-names! How is he single?
When we got back to his truck, he told me to wait while he goes and gets something. So I wait, looking at the huge screen in front of me. I wasn't watching though. I was thinking, pondering. I had never been given this much attention like this. Boys either wanted me for my body or not at all. I didn't want to ruin this.
I then feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn to see Bobby with smuggled-in candy, a towel for the bed of his truck, two pillows, and four blankets. My smile widened. He's gotta have a sister or something. He climbed into the bed of his truck and reached his hand out to help me. I stepped in and carefully help him lay everything out. The second we sit down, the movie starts. At this time, we weren't touching each other. He was about a foot away from me which I wanted to change. It looked like he was doing it so I wouldn't feel uncomfortable. I gather some courage and say, " Can I lean on your shoulder?" "You don't have to ask twice."
A couple of minutes later, he asks sporadically, "Your momma seems lovely." "Oh, Alison? She's not my mother she's the uh- live-in maid. My parents aren't even in the country right now. They're never really here. That's why I didn't second guess asking you on a date." I mumble. "I'm sorry I shouldn't have asked-" he tries to say before I cut in. "No, no you should know. It's not a bad thing. I can go out whenever I want and do whatever I want. That doesn't mean I do...but I have the ability too." "Oh.. okay." He says softly.
As the movie ended, my back was against his chest and he was softly grazing his fingers along my forearm. We slowly got up from our positions and cleaned up before getting back into the front of his truck.
When we pulled into my long driveway, I said, "Thank you for tonight... I really enjoyed it. He looked into my eyes for the second time tonight and said, "Me too." After he parks, he jogs over to my door like the true gentleman he is. I step out and he walks me to my door. Before I begin to unlock the door, I turn to him and look at him, studying every feature. He started to blush so I reached up and lightly grasped his cheek. "Would it be okay if I kissed you now?" He asks trying not to look at my lips but failing. "Bobby, kiss me forever," I say before pulling him into a short but sweet kiss that made me go weak in the knees. When the kiss broke and I wished him goodnight, I couldn't stop thinking of him and the kiss and how much he was gonna change my life.
PRESENT
"You know, that was my first kiss." Bobby says as the story ends. "No!" I say extremely surprise because there is no way I'm the only girl Bobby's ever kissed. "You mean to tell me I'm the only girl you've ever kissed?" "Yes ma'am." He says proudly. "Your crazy, Bobby." I say, still not believing him. "Crazy for you."
