~* Lan Wangji age 12*~

There is an unnamed and an unclaimed sword in our sect that was created by the sect founder, Lan An. It was said he created it to match the most pure cultivator to exist. The sword consists of pure Yang Energy. So the owner as well, has to have pure Yang Energy. Those who are in GusuLan, would think they are all pure Yang Energy cultivators, but that is not the case.

Each cultivator has Yin and Yang energy. Some have more Yin, which are to be noticed as more arrogant and infatuated with themselves, while those who have more Yang, are more well respectful and are more balanced. It is very rare to find a cultivator with pure Yang Energy.

Yin, for "female" or "moon," represents darkness, femininity, passivity, and the earth. Yang for "sun" or "male" represents light, masculinity, activity, and the heavens. The balance of yin and yang were seen to influence health and order within an individual, society, and the entire universe.

I have been using the training swords during class. Most disciples get their sword between fourteen and sixteen, as it depends on their level of cultivation. And as of today, there are cultivation level checks. How level checks work is a crystal ball is placed in the front of the lecture room (Lanshi/Orchid Room), and the disciple places their hand on it. The brightness and color of the light is what determines the level. Red is beginners, yellow is novice or intermediate, Green is Advanced, and Blue is Mastered and ready to train for immortality.

Training for immortality is a whole different story. There are only a few that have been known to reach immortality but they have long disappeared. One of them is the legendary Baoshan Sanren. She was the truest of true friends of the only female Sect Leader Lan Yi. She was Shufu and my Father's mother, which would make her my grandmother. She too, has either died, or long disappeared, and no one knows how or why.

"Lan Wangji," a Grandmaster by the name Lan Shen (Means Spiritual Thinker), "come up and place your hand on the crystal ball."

When I placed my hand on the ball, it glowed a bright yellow with a hint of green.

'I was almost advanced? How? Do I really meditate and practice too much?' I asked.

"Ugh, can one of the older disciples retrieve Grandmaster Qiren?" Grandmaster Shen asked out, "Wangji you can sit for now until your Shufu returns."

I am sure he is going to try a different method of checking my cultivation level. Which is to actually run some spiritual energy through my spiritual passageways. It is a good way to really be thorough and to make sure there was no mistake with the crystal ball. It has never once made a mistake though, so as to why they need to double check, who knows. It's a little more dangerous running spiritual energy through another's passage ways, because the energies could clash and cause a backlash on both sides. After everyone checked their cultivation level, everyone was asked to leave but me. Lan Shen was still waiting for my Shufu.

"Place your hand on the ball again for me," he told me.

I nodded and walked over to the ball. I placed my hand on the crystal ball, and it was still the brightest yellow it can be, with a touch of green. Shufu and my brother walked in and noticed before I pulled my hand away.

"Is that why you asked me to come over? To double check Wangji's Cultivation?" Shufu asked.

"I've never seen a twelve year old at this level. This is a level where fourteen to twenty year olds are. He is eligible for a sword as of now. I just don't want the ball to be wrong," Grandmaster Shen stated.

"The crystal ball has never shown a false reading," Shufu told him, "it cannot be wrong. Wangji just spends all of his time cultivating. He isn't like other children."
