6. September 1991, Nonna's house
Jon's POV
I had to admit today had been a great day. For once I tried not to think about anything and to just enjoy spending time with my family. And I most certainly did.
We went to the beach as I promised and after that my grandma had shown us her great restaurant and man she hadn't lied. It was delicious. But after eating and having spent the whole day outside before, we all were very tired and so we went straight to bed.
I just felt myself slowly drifting off into sleep as the phone rang. Immediately I was fully awake and I jumped out of the bed.
Nonna must have heard it too because I heard her getting up and she said to me I should rest and she'd get it. But I insisted on taking it and tell the person to call back tomorrow. And I think Nonna was grateful for that because getting up was not that easy anymore in her age, especially when she was tired.
"Where have you been for fucks sake?
I tried to call you for the whole day already and you didn't pick up. I'm in fucking hospital right now. So you better speed up if you still want to witness the birth of your kid."
"Woah wait a minute. It's already that far? I thought the baby wasn't due for another two weeks."
"Well sorry that the baby doesn't give a shit about calendars. Actually I don't know how long it will take. The doctors said ...Ahh!..."
"Shit Julie everything alright?"
"Yeah so alright it can be when you're having contractions already for the whole day. Anyways, the doctors really couldn't tell how long it will take from now on. It could be done within hours but it could also take another few days. But you better hurry up and get your ass into the hospital now!"
"Alright alright I'm goin'." I let out a long holded breath. Then I laid the phone back to it's place, still in shock.
"What is up Jonny, everything alright?" No. Nothing was alright. I just could hope that my grandma's hearing really was as bad as she always told me. Otherwise I was done.
"Very important management stuff. I gotta go right back to America. Sorry it even took me by surprise. I'll explain everything later. Goodbye."
I guiltily hugged my still extremely surprised grandma and began with throwing some documents and my car keys in my pocket.
"Wait! Now you wanna fly?"
"Yeah, I have to."
"But I can tell you from experience that you won't get far. Everything's usually booked out on the only flight that goes to America at this time. I guess you have to wait until tomorrow then.
What can be so important anyway that they expect you to just suddenly have to go back in the middle of the night? Can't my boy just ever take his well deserved rest?"
"As I said I'll tell you later. Sorry I really have to go now. I'll check out the airport by myself, maybe there's still some possibility."
Airport Falcone e Borsellino, Italy
Jon's POV
"What do you mean it isn't possible?" I shouted at the woman at the airport reception.
"I do mean that everything's booked out."
