1. March 1992, Jon's house in New Jersey
Jon's POV
"How's it going?" I asked Richie and Tico who were carrying tons of beer and other beverages in my basement.
"It's going well, just a few left."
"Alright, then I'm gonna get Dave and we'll be carrying the last ones. Can't let you two do all the work alone."
"It's really no problem." Richie reassured me. "See it as an early birthday present."
Yes, as you may know by the date, it was one day before my 30th birthday. I hadn't wanted it becoming such a big occasion, but everyone said to me that 30 is the beginning of a new decade, a new chapter in life, and so you gotta celebrate it.
To be honest I think the boys just wanted a party and free drinks. But who could blame them? For the last months we all had been in Vancouver, recording a few songs for our new album, we just had gotten back around a week ago.
And as we were getting closer as a band again, it would do us good to spend some time apart from work together again, we just wanted to have some fun.
In the early afternoon we were done preparing and decorating everything at my house. When all my friends would turn up tomorrow it would be perfect. We even build some kind of bar in my big living room and Tico had brought his old pool table.
Furthermore we had installed a big stereo system and the boys had helped to pick out some good records for partying. I actually was getting a bit excited.
First I wanted to tell the guys to go, but I figured it would be rude throwing them out of the house just after helping me, and actually we had so much fun at the moment and I had nothing to do anyways, so we decided to play some rounds of basketball.
In my driveway. In March. Even though it was a pretty warm day and there was no snow or anything, we first were freezing. But the movement got us warm soon.
We ran around like high school kids, and probably we played even worse than them. There was a reason we became musicians and no sports champions. But we had fun, that was all that counted.
We even ended up playing in t-shirts about what every mom would freak out because you could get a cold, but we didn't worry about that at all. As we got too sweaty and exhausted, Tico and Dave decided to go home now and get a shower and some sleep before my big party.
But Richie still wanted to stay a bit. So we ended up jamming and exchanging song ideas. He said he had some lyrics written by Dave and him that he wanted to show me and actually they were very promising.
