Carol's POV
ROCK LOCAL magazine, 2. August 1993
No sleep till he's dead!
The start into the 90s had not been short of events and accidents for rock-megastar Jon Bon Jovi (31). But as we meet him backstage on his current world tour while staying in England, he seems to be in a better mood than ever. A big reason for that, he states, was the birth of his twins this May.
"Jon, first of all congratulations to your new family addition. To jump right into a question fans aren't stopping to ask us recently, when will there finally be a name reveal?"
"It has been out for months: Elvis! Elvis 1 and 2 for that matter (laughs). No, I guess it has been revealed by several sources by now, but to hear it from me again, my babies are called Florentine and Emilano."
"Cute names. You don't often hear these. Was there an inspiration behind them?"
"We've had many family fights about them, I tell you. I wanted to call my boy Jesse James first... But no, not really. We've been collecting names for months before the birth, of course there are several things to consider. You don't want to call your kid and five other kids on the playground turn around because they got the same name. But also they shouldn't be embarassed every time their name gets called. Like John Francis (chuckles)."
"I'll take that as an offence!" John exclaimed with played disapproval. "We have put great thought into that."
I could only nod at that. It always hurts when your kids complain about the names we've chosen for them. Jokes aside, we knew Jon was over that by now. Nobody, only the die-hards knew his real full name anyway. I can say he had been more creative when it comes to baby names than we had been.
I continued to skim the article. Jon hated it when I read the press about him, half of it were lies, at least that was what he told me. But as a mother I couldn't resist. Hearing something new about my son, no matter how often that happened nowadays, always filled me with pride and excitement.
I even had been forming the idea to be Bon Jovi's new fan club manager since they fired everyone external. Jon hates the idea because he is afraid I'll tell them embarrassing secrets of his teenage years, but the rest of the band had loved the idea and I know I'll get him to agree to it sooner or later. As a mother, I have my ways.
"How has fatherhood changed you, Jon? Slowing down doesn't seem to exist in the Bongiovi household."
