To be fair, it had been a long time since Jaquella left the house when she found out that she was pregnant.
For many reasons, she just didn't have the urge to take a walk out on the streets and smell the fresh air. The idea of bumping into Trevor not any of her friends terrified her.
Her belly was nearly showing, to the point it might've shown a bump, an outline of her clothes. Jaquella was currently fourteen weeks pregnant, which was three months.
Wearing baggy clothes had grown on her these past weeks. She liked them, way more than having to wear tight clothes. It was slowly becoming her favourite.
Meanwhile, when Jaquella remembered that call she had with her best friend, she was so glad to finally talk to Tabitha. Three and a half weeks was a long time and both of them were relieved to discuss with each other.
Even Jaquella felt a bit more peaceful and content now that she didn't have to worry about anything. Well, except for Trevor. That thought hadn't crossed her mind.
When she did, her body would just tense up strangely and it wasn't really good for the baby due to the stress. She knew better when she did so and tried to ignore it as much as possible, but it never really left.
Though it had been four weeks since she last saw Trevor, the distance between them was much farther than he thought.
He still didn't know about her surroundings, but Tabitha had already told him about Jaquella and how she called her not too long ago.
But with her family's support, Jaquella was able to find the blissful peace she was feeling in her own environment in her life.
However, for the first time as it seems, she was considering going outside and Manu wasted no time joining her as he wanted to walk with her and take a fresh air.
She knew that he was only with her to protect her from any way harm, though he didn't admit it. But she was pleased that someone was willing to go with her outside in the streets.
Before leaving and heading to the empty, quiet streets with Manu, obviously, Jaquella made sure to cover herself and the dawdling bump that was growing by adding a few layers to the cold weather.
It was December and chilly outside, snowing every there and then. Winter was always Jaquella's favourite, smiling under the snow falling on top of their heads while Manu was cursing under his breath, shivering in his jacket.
Luckily, they managed to find a restaurant over the side after a fifteen-minute walk. They both walked inside and quickly let out a sigh of relief, the warm breeze hitting their cold skin.
Manu smiled like he was blessed to find Tim Hortons as he sat on one of the empty seats and Jaquella followed him. Then, she gave him extra money to buy something from the menu.
"I'm gonna go to the washroom." She announced and Manu nodded, getting up from the seats and heading towards the cashier.
After a few minutes of finishing in the washroom, she rubbed her hands and later found her brother chewing the last piece of his second croissant.
She sat in front of him and chuckled, grabbing his water bottle by his arm and taking a small drink.
"Did you save me some?" She asked, raising her brow as Manu's mouth was full.
He hummed, nodding his head and continuing to finish the leftovers, "Of course, I bought over five croissants just for you."
A smile widened on his face as Jaquella glanced at him in awe and thanked him, taking a croissant and taking a bite, tasting the chocolate filling inside.
He even remembered to buy her favourites as well as buying her a drink. He knew that his sister deserved to get a good meal which Jaquella couldn't stop eating, feeling blessed to have her favourite snacks around.
Suddenly, Manu burped loudly as people turned their heads and stared at him in confusion. Jaquella snickered, playfully rolling her eyes at his silly behaviour.
"Oh, crap, eating that croissant was a bad mistake. I'm gonna go have a good time in the washroom." He whispered.
Jaquella laughed, watching as Manu quickly headed to the washroom area and closed the door behind him.
To waste her time while her brother was gone, she grabbed her phone out of her jacket's pocket and scrolled through the unread notifications.
"Jaquella?"
Wait. Why did that voice sound so familiar?
She looked up to the tall figure blocking half of her view, her heart racing in disbelief. Her eyes widened while her body froze, having to meet his hazel eyes.
"...Trevor." She quietly gasped.
