"Bowling?" said Pyril. "You want to know if I would like to go bowling?"
"I thought it might be fun. Efe suggested it and I thought it might be fun, Leyla is going to come. If you don't want to I understand, forget I asked Pyril." Engin thought that he had made progress with Pyril, he was wrong.
"Engin, you misunderstood me, I love bowling, I was just surprised that's all. What time? Do you want to pick me up or should I meet you there?"
His relief was overwhelming, "I'll pick you up if you send me your address. Say 7:30? We're going to have pizza at the bowling alley, Efe says it's good. I'm trusting him on this."
"Efe? Efe Akman from IT? And Leyla Haktan?"
"Yes, do you know them?"
"Well sort of, Efe is a friend of one of my cousins and I know Leyla from working cases. Okay, I'll send you my address. Thanks for asking me Engin, this should be fun."
Engin was nervous, he had his first kind of official date with Pyril. Granted it wasn't just the two of them but still he asked and she said yes. He had ninety minutes before he needed to go get her so he decided to get his car washed, inside and out. Ceren's advice ringing in his ears. Engin also made sure that he had time to take a shower and put on clean clothes.
Ceren's advice to Pyril stuck with her, she told her to loosen up a little bit. Engin was a good guy, maybe accept the next time he asks you out. It just so happened that Pyril did love to bowl, she knew that Efe bowled in a league with her cousin so he was probably decent, not as good as her, but decent. Pyril loved competitive sports, no one would be able to tell that from her sweet appearance, but she had a killer instinct when playing sports.
Efe had some butterflies of his own. Leyla Haktan was adorable with her curly hair and brown eyes behind those glasses. Working with her today showed him a side of her that he didn't know. She was smart and funny, she held her own with Engin doing the police work and she was sassy. He was a little bit older than her but he didn't think that should matter. He always thought that she had a crush on Serkan but Engin cleared that up for him. Besides, who didn't love bowling?
Leyla Haktan hated bowling, with a passion. The idea of wearing shoes that someone else had worn and putting your finger into a ball that someone else had stuck their sweaty fingers in just did not appeal. She wasn't a germaphobe she just thought that some things were icky. Bowling was one of them. Detective Efe Ackman was definitely not icky, he was tall and smart and handsome, so if he wanted to bowl and he invited Leyla to bowl with them she would suck it up and go. She would be terrible at it but she would go.
The four met at the bowling alley where Efe had reserved a lane.
"So how about we divide into teams? Do we want to do girls against guys or guy/girl? What?" said Efe.
Pyril suggested that they do girls against the guys first and then do the coed teams. She totally missed Leyla's head shake.
When they were getting their shoes Leyla said to Pyril, "I'm letting you know up front that I'm horrible at bowling. I actually hate it."
"Leyla, then why are you here bowling?"
Leyla gave a head jerk to Efe and Pyril understood, "Here's what we're going to do, I'm going to teach you how to bowl. You'll be surprised at how easy it is, trust me okay?"
"If you say so."
Pyril spent some time instructing Leyla in the finer points of bowling before they even began, She convinced Leyla that she really could do it, just follow her lead. Efe started off with a spare that he picked up with his next ball. Engin high fived him. Pyril came next, they weren't prepared for her strike. Engin and Leyla both had splits that left pins.
