The Detectives stepped outside to discuss Eda's eyewitness account.
"It sounds like she identified Aptekin as the murderer. We'll need her to do an identification from photos. The slippery bastard will have an alibi for the time and place I'm sure but this time we have the witness."
Serkan rolled his neck to relieve the stress that was building there, they had witnesses before but they had a tendency to disappear. This one he was going to make sure didn't disappear, this witness had become personal in a very short period of time. He would have to talk to his superior, if he wouldn't let him work the case then he would take his personal time to make sure that she was safe.
"Engin, our witness' have disappeared before. That isn't going to happen this time. I'll be damned if it is going to happen this time. We're going to have them all come down to the station for questioning and then we'll have to talk to them about protection. Eda said he saw the top of her head and eyes. Guessing from a distance it could be any of the three darker girls, those would be my immediate concern."
He would have to agree, Ceren's blonde halo was distinct and couldn't be mistaken for dark hair in the sun.
"You know Engin, as much as I want to nail Aptekin, I still say that he is acting for someone much higher up the food chain. What do you think our chances are of getting the top dog? Do you think we could get Aptekin to roll on them?" Serkan was thinking out loud, he and his partner had this conversation many times before.
"I don't know Abi, Aptekin is motivated by money. He doesn't have loyalty to anything other than money. I can't see him rolling without a financial gain. You have more money than you know what to do with but you aren't giving it to him. You'd burn it in a pile before you ever gave him a penny. How are you thinking to get him to roll?"
Serkan looked deep in thought, "I don't know yet, I don't know."
Aptekin knew that he had made an error in judgement this time he was the one who had screwed up and the boss wasn't going to be happy if they found out. No Aptekin needed to keep a low profile. He had returned the stolen boat to the marina and wiped it down, there was no trace of Cenk on the boat and no trace of Aptekin on the boat. If only he had gotten the name of the yacht that was moored in the cove.
That was the problem with taking care of problems solo against the boss' orders, you didn't have backup when you needed it. It was just a matter of time before Serkan Bolat was knocking on his door, well the bastard would have to find him first. It was time for him to take a little trip out of town, he needed a vacation anyways.
Selin Atakan had taken over leadership of her shares of the Bolat/Atakan holding when she was just twenty-two, in the business world she was a force to be reckoned with. She had been working closely with Kemal Ozcan for years and, while she respected him, she didn't feel that he belonged. He was neither a Bolat or an Atakan. Selin could never understand why Serkan Bolat chose to be a policeman over taking his rightful place as heir to the Bolat/Atakan holding.
She needed to call him again to set up dinner to approach him about joining the holding. She would call Aydan Bolat but the woman never went anywhere, she didn't 'do' dinner or any other event for that matter. Selin wasn't about to waste another dime redecorating her office in an attempt to sway her. No, Selin needed to go straight to Serkan and explain to him how it should be, no time like the present she thought.
Serkan and Engin were getting ready to go back into the salon when his phone rang, he looked at caller id and showed it to Engin. Both of them rolled their eyes, Selin Atakan, "Selin, good afternoon."
"Serkan. Tonight you and I need to have dinner."
"I'm sorry Selin, that isn't possible, I'm working," said Serkan. Even if he wasn't working it wasn't possible. He had zero desire to spend any time in Selin's presence. They had known each other their whole lives. Serkan had done his best to avoid her, she had done her best to cling to him.
