ANNE'S POV

Flying on a bird is everything Anne has ever dreamed of. She can't believe how much high they are over the world. The clouds near them seem cotton candy.

-Do you like it?- Jelly asks her. Anne's gaze has been stuck on the sky around them for all the time. The girl laughs.

-I love it!!- She says with a bright, huge smile. Sprig points below.

-Look, Anne!! That's Wartwood! Welcome home...- He says, grabs Anne's wrist. Anne looks down another time, where Sprig is pointing. Under them there's a tiny village, some frogs are moving inside the streets, looking like beatles from Anne's point of view.

-That's my house! Look, look!- Sprig yells, points a farm. Jelly grabs Joe's reins and makes the bird slow down his speed. Anne takes a deep breath, trying to calm down, but she's nervous.

She thinks of the promise she made, she has to protect a village with her Power. But protected from who? And for how long? She has to find again Sasha and Marcy. They're ok, Anne, don't worry, she says to herself.

-Hold on tight to the saddle, guys!- Jelly screams a second before grabbing tighter the reins. Joe Sparrow bends his wings and starts a nosedive.

Anne yells and hugs Sprig, Sprig hugs her back even if he's not scared. Anne closes her eyes, feeling the wind hitting strong her face, swollen up her hair.

The nosedive lasts less than a bunch of seconds but it was way too long for Anne. Joe touches down the ground and chirps with satisfaction for the perfect execution of the manoeuvre.

-And we're here!- Sprig says and laughs as he breaks his hug with Anne to jump on the ground. Anne blinks a few times, opens carefully her eyes. The world is stuck around her, it's not spinning anymore and she can take a comforted breath.

-Woah, guys. I don't wanna do that never again.- She comments as she gets off Joe Sparrow's back. Her legs are swaying. She feels like she hasn't slept in ages.

-Come, Anne, we have to introduce you to everyone!- Sprig and Jelly say at the same time, grabbing both of Anne's hands. Anne laughs but it's a nervous laugh, she glances around her.

They have touched down in a square and it's full of people -better say full of frogs- and they're all watching her. Anne swallows. She can hear some whispers about her. She's horrifying! Oh my, will she protect us? I've never trusted humans...

Anne's attention moves from the whispers to an old, smiling red frog that walks from the crowd to her. Sprig leaves Anne's hand to run ahead and hug the frog.

-Hop Pop! Look, she's Anne the Human!- Sprig yells, everybody in the square shut up. Anne blushes.

-Uh...I..? Hello, I guess.- She mutters, awkward. Hop Pop smiles to her again.

-Welcome to Wartwood Anne! I'm Sprig's grandad, if you were wondering. And we're very happy to have you here!- He says. Anne looks around her, sees some dissatisfied and worried face.

-Not everybody are, duh?- She murmurs, only Jelly hears her. They're still holding her hand, and they grab it tighter. Anne smiles to them, hesitant.

-We are glad you came. We are in danger, human.- Hop Pop goes on. Anne sighs.

-Ok, let me guess...Andrias is attacking your village and you need protection? Right?- She says, sarcastic. Hop Pop doesn't get her sarcasm and shakes his head.

-No, Andrias has no power here. That's why you're safe! We don't know if he even knows of this village. We're attacked by a monster! Someone more ancient than the world.- Hop Pop explains and Anne shivers. She regrets her decision as soon as she hears the word monster. Sprig jumps in front of her.

-Legends say the monster is always hungry and it cannot be beaten by frogs or toads or newts! Amphibians have no power against its fangs. He's huge as a mountain, fast as the sound of the thunder!- Jelly continues Sprig talk:

-It's always mad because someone stole from it what was more precious. It lives in a cave, sleeps all day and at night it goes out for food. It is a hybrid of a sea snake and a dragon and a worm, it has two wings and and six paws and two heads.- Anne looks shocked at Jelly, hoping they're joking.

-Woah, woah, woah, calm down, ok?? How the fuck am I supposed to take down that thing?? I'm just...me! A sixteen year old girl who doesn't know what's happening or where she is! I can't beat something huger than a mountain!- She complains, desperate. That situation is crazy, absurd, she can't do that.

Hop Pop and Sprig exchanges a gaze.

-Yeah...uhm...we don't know, actually.- Sprig admits, rubbing the back of his neck.

-But you have to save us, human! You are the host of the Blue Power! Our ancestor said to us that the Blue will defeat the LandCrusher!!- A frog yells from the crowd and all start nodding.

-Yeah, right! The Blue beats the LandCrusher! You have to save us!- In less than a minute a chorus raises around Anne and she blushes even more. How can she explain to all those hopeful frogs that she has never even beaten the bully of his school, how the fuck can she beat a monster "more ancient than the world and blah blah??" She can't.

-And who's that ancestor who said that? Maybe they're wrong...- She tries to say but Hop Pop shakes his head.

-No, human. Leif had never been wrong in all her life. Come, we have to show you something.- He says in a serious tone of voice. Anne looks down to Sprig and Jelly, frowns.

Jelly nods to encourage her and holds her hands. Together, they follow Hop Pop inside the village. The crowd opens in two half around us when they walk out the square.

...

Hop Pop guides Anne inside a old house, it's a ruin covered of ivy. Anne finds it amazing, how the plants have grown inside the walls and between the bricks, but she's too nervous to say anything.

They enter inside a room that looks like an old living room, with dust and pieces of broken bricks everywhere.

On the wall above the fireplace, there's written something with a red ink.

-Look, human! That's our prophecy. What our ancestor Leif, who found this village, left to us. A prophecy and a promise.- Anne narrows her eyes as Hop Pop talks, looks at the runes. She can't read it.

-What there's written?- She asks. She can't say if she's curious or afraid. Sprig jumps near the fireplace and reads out loud the words.

Inside a cave that nobody has ever seen
Behind the rage of the guardian
Stop your anger to not get lost
Never go alone, the true Strength is in the team

-That's all?? A riddle? That's truly all you've got for me? How the fuck this can help with the LandCrusher? How it can help me?!- Anne complains, pointing at the riddle.

-Nah, it's useless, ok? Useless. Sorry I can't beat it. I can't even understand what this riddle is about!- She makes a pout, seats on the dirty floor.

-I'm sorry.- She repeats. All of sudden all she wants to do is cry. Sprig seats near her.

-Hey Anne. Nobody can force you to fight a monster if you don't want. Why...why don't you give it a look, before pushing yourself back? Maybe tomorrow we can go at the cave and give a look together. Now you must be tired, right?- The little frog says and Anne nods, sighs again.

-Ok, fine, fine.- She flashes a sad smile to Sprig.

-We can do that!- Jelly says, hugging her. And Anne believes them, she feels the Power flowing in her veins. She smiles, closes her hands into fist.

She can't see that but a blue spark glows for a second in her eyes.
