Chapter 29 - It's a Wicked Game

Lilith's POV

I stared at him as he stared at me, neither of us knew what to do but we both knew who each other was. Was he as restless as I was? 

Lilith, why do you even care?

We were frozen in our spots, neither of us knowing what to do or how to react and seeing the colour of my fur has probably shocked him. How can a feeble human being have a coat of a royal? 

He took a step towards me and that snapped me out of my thoughts, it brought me back to reality. I stared at him, still unable to move even though I was very present in my surroundings. When he tried to take another step towards me, I let out a low growl to let him know to stop. Confusion clouded his wolf's mind, not knowing why he wasn't able to disobey my growl and walk towards me and instead involuntarily bow his head towards me. 

Why is he confused? Surely he would have seen my fur and knew instantly that I was a born royal. Is he really that clueless about the werewolf world and our history? Must be. I'm not surprised, considering his life was clouded with girls and boys who don't have a brain cell between them, it's really surprising that he has any sense at all.

I watched him as he watched me from a bowed position, I wanted to laugh in his face, and human me was. I stood there for a few seconds before bolting back towards my house, now exhausted and ready to pass out.

" How was your vacation guys?" We greeted Demitrius and Arria at the airport, how happy I was to see my brother's face again. " It was great, a really good retreat" Arria smiled at me and I felt happiness, happiness that my brother and his mate were able to finally enjoy some peace and quiet. Taking over Demitrius' role was very difficult, and it made me appreciate him even more with how much he actually does for all of us, but also for the rest of the werewolf world. One day, he will be the King of Werewolves and I can only be grateful that he was born first. 

" So, what happened when we were gone?" Demitrius asked as we all walked back towards the car park where we left the cars. " What didn't happen" I shot Caius a stern look, the guy had only just stepped off the plane give him some time to adjust. " What do you mean?" Dem was looking between us all, none of us wanted to say a word. "Lilith?" I groaned internally, fuck you Caius. 

" Honestly, Caius is exagerating" I started to explain which got me a fuck you from Caius. 

"Nothing new then" Arria laughed which resulted in everyone else throwing in a chuckle, Arria has really began opening up and matching our level of humour and it's really nice to see, even better to experience. " That's actually not fair because I bet when you tell what happened at the pack meeting, Dem wouldn't be saying I'm exagerating" I rolled my eyes, Caius was probably right but I didn't want to admit that. 

"Lilith?" I groaned out loud this time, thanks a bunch Caius. My family don't know that I had a wolf encounter with my mate yesterday. " Get in the car" I said to Dem as I got in the driver's side. Caspian was going to get into the passenger side but Dem politely told him to shift his arse to the back. 

Once we were all safely buckled in and I knew we could hit the road, I decided to proceed. 

"Well, to cut a long story short, Alexander told his pack that Emma is not his mate" I could feel Dem's eyes staring at me. " And?" I shrugged my shoulders, wanting to keep the remainder out of my mind. " Well if she isn't going to proceed, I will" Caspian clasped his hands rather loudly and leaned forward on the centre piece. " He basically told the pack he knows who his mate is but doesn't think he is good enough for her and wants to work on that" Arria was sipping on some water in the back, but now the water was stuck in her throat. 

"Well, he got that one right" Demitirus after a long while, which was probably a few seconds but felt like eternity to me, replied. " He isn't good enough for Lils" Caspian and Caius both agreed. " But what I am more intrigued with, is how he is planning to become this great mate for you? Granted that this isn't too late" I nodded my head, it is rare for a wolf to live without a mate but it isn't impossible. Especially if the wolf in question completes the mating process with someone else, the mate bond is pretty much weakened to the core, but never completely gone. 

"I guess the decision is up to you" Dem looked at me and I shot him an 'are you on crack' look. 

"There is no decision to make Dem, he tried to humiliate me infront of a whole school cafeteria, proceeded to claim someone else as his mate all because he thought I was weak?I'm sorry, but I'm really confused to see where the decision here has to be made" I replied, whenever I think of the humilation it angers me. However, the thought that Alexander had claimed another as his mate angers me even more, and then the fact that that thought angers me, angers me even more. 

I am now getting angry because I am angry over him. 

"I understand that Lil, but a mate bond is extremely strong" I huffed not really wanting to talk to Demitrius about that. I knew how strong a mate bond was, but I was stronger. 

"The fact that this is bothering you, is the mate bond. I know you want to put up a big and strong persona, but when it comes to your mate... Lilith, all I'm saying is don't be ignorant because of your own anger" 

Caspian and Caius were looking at Demitrius with confusion, we were now outside our house and I couldn't help but be confused at Dem too. 

" Why are you sticking up for him all of a sudden?" I asked, I was a little hurt that Demitrius was taking his side and not mine. 

" Lils, I'm really not" Demitirus sighed. " However, I know first hand how strong a mate bond is and, what I'm trying to say is, be prepared for what Alexander has in plan. If he is being genuinely serious about this becoming a good mate for my mate bollocks, he will be doing a lot to get to you. Don't be irrational, listen and try to understand but also do not give him an easy time" I put my hand up to stop him. 

"What makes you think that I even want to listen to him?" I asked Dem confused. 

"Because I can see how much this bothers you now"
