Chapter 36 - The Mom

Liliths' POV - 

"This might be fun and jokes to you but it is NOT for us" Leo was being scolded like a child by a parent in Demitrius' office, which we were all packed into. "You are here to represent the family, an example of the most disciplined and intelligent wolves there are alive and you do that?" In this instance, none of us could even say anything in defence for Leo, as his actions were not in protocol with what we stand for. I for one didn't want to stick up for Leo, as I had to endure a whole hour with Alexander trying to make small talk and the awkward silence in the car. 

"I get it Dem, I really do  but that asshole just infuriates me with his presence" he glanced at me and I looked away, puppy dog eyes are not going to work on me. " Especially how he thinks we are all here for his beck and call and---" Demitrius silenced him with his own words. 

"Do you not think we all hate him here? I for one cannot stand what he had done to Lils, if I could I would rip him to shreds and feed him to the pigs but I can't. None of us can do anything, not even Lili can do anything, our one rule outside of the palace is to never show emotion, never show hurt, and be disciplined and formal at all times. We are representing the kingdom Leo, this isn't just a position to be throwing around and if you can't accept this then I think we might need to revisit if you're the correct person for this job" Leo visibly straightened up at the mention of going back to Russia and any counteragreement he had was swallowed. 

"No of course, I am prepared to adhere to the rules" 

One thing that I have learnt whilst knowing who my real family were, and maybe why it was so easy for me to adjust as my nature in England was as reserved as it is here, but that we take our position and purpose from the palace very seriously. Leo's hatred for Alexander was very easy to push to the back when it came to the stake of his position and the reason why he was sent here, his pride and honour towards my parents is worth to him a lot more than his personal hatred. 

"That being said, let's get going to another pack meeting" I was nearest to the door so I got out first, I needed to change out of my training clothes and actually look presentable.

"Lils" I stopped and turned around to look at my newly acquired friend. "I am sorry for today, the want to get under his skin got over the need to protect you" I looked at Leo for a little longer than expected, his eyes were captivating. " Just don't do it again, I don't fancy having to have another lunch date with him because you pissed him off" I cracked a small smile which Leo returned whole heartedly, what happened next took me by surprise. 

He engulfed me in the biggest hug. 

Alexander's POV-

I was stood in my bedroom replaying over and over the words that Lilith told me on our lunch date, and I am calling it a date because I am planning for there to be a lot more. 

"People need to rethink their reasons"

She was clearly implying at the rejection, which the thought of now makes me curdle inside. 

I called for the pack meeting because I was finally getting to the root of the pack attacks here and in nearby packs, I am yet to determine if the pack attacks have just been in our region our if they are nationwide. Since meeting Lilith I have become a lot more mature, in a way her being my mate and the mysteriousness around her has made me realise that my boy days are over and I need to be ready to take over the pack whenever my father deems it. The pack attacks have made me realise that, tomorrow is never promised and I was stupid in believing I could be this playboy and lead a pack. The more time that I spent with my dad, especially after telling him that Emma was not my true mate, has made me realise how extensive his job actually is and how much responsibility it holds. I mean he's responsible for the whole pack! All those lives...

I have one person to thank for this enlightenment, and at the time I thought the moon goddess was cursing me giving me a mate that was a human up until she shifted but... in a way it was the biggest blessing to occur to me. I just needed to figure out a way to make us happen, because Lilith is not a straight forward case and I need to know she'll be able to handle the pack and the leadership that comes with it. I know mates are important, but the pack is even more important. 

"Alex" I turned to the source of the voice and had seen my mom walk into my room with a mug that was steaming with the liquid inside. " I brought you hot milk with honey, your favourite" I looked up at her through my mirror, I was making sure I looked presentable for my pack. "I've not had that in ages Mom" I turned and walked over to her before taking the mug off her before I took a gulp of the heavenly liquid. MIlk with honey is something that I drank as a child every single night without miss, it was only until I got to High School and became the person I am now ashamed of that it changed. 

"I know" she smiled and sat down on one of the armchairs that were positioned in my room, next to a huge bookshelf of books that until recently I abandoned. " You've changed" She said after a while of her watching me drink the milk. "How?" I asked her walking over to the armchair that was situated next to hers,my mom was always someone I regarded as very important. She always has been important to me and she always will be.

"You're calm" I looked up at her confused, since meeting Lilith all I felt was rage, confusion, turmoil...jealousy. "You're mature, you act like a man and not like a boy" I cocked an eyebrow, I wasn't aware that my mom thought I was acting anything like a boy but I guess she has a point." I like this version of you, this is the version of Alexander that your father and I wanted you to be" it was a bittersweet smile that I sent my mom's way because I never wanted to not make my parents proud, but I guess with my boyish childish actions I did. 

"So do me a favour son" she stood up from the armchair and smoothed her dress. 

"Introduce your real mate to us soon, because I want to thank her for indirectly making my son a better man" She gave me a small smile and walked towards the door, she stopped by the doorframe before she turned to face me .

"I like her already"
