IN THE SCRUB ROOM, Derek and Delilah stand side by side. The two were scrubbing as the Attending questioned Meredith about patient history.

"Vertiginous or light-headedness?" the man asked.

"Light-headed. Sometimes he'd have to brace himself to get out of bed," the dirty blonde explained.

"Could be a million things. Simple orthostasis. What?" Derek asks, seeing Meredith's look of doubt.

"What made him fall down the stairs with a nail gun?" she wonders.

"Well, he said he tripped right? Just because you hear hoof beats, don't assume zebras. Stay positive, Mer!" Delilah chips in, putting on her mask.

"Something caused him to lose consciousness and fall down the stairs. He could have a tumour!" Meredith exclaims. There's something she's not telling me. She's been weird recently.

"Look, I have no idea why this guy's still alive, let alone moving and talking. Not a clue. Let's just get him through this before we start digging around for something else," the neurosurgeon advised. Delilah links her pinky with Meredith's, the older girl nodding her head gratefully.

The three surgeons walk into the OR, gowned and scrubbed. Delilah greets the familiar scrub nurses and takes her spot next to Meredith.

"She had this thing for red when we met. Red car, red dresses, red hats. Personally, I hated the colour. Too obvious, you know? But a couple years ago, I took her up to the mountains. She was in a red dress, and there was this field of red poppies, I think. And she jumped out of the car and ran into them and started laughing, laughing at all the red," Jorge shared, reminiscing about his wife. I want to have what they have.

"As you can see, the patient has shot seven nails directly into the skull without doing significant damage other than the optic nerve, and we may be able to save that. The idea is to remove the nails at exactly the angle they entered. Any wiggle and we risk doing more damage than when they went in," Richard explained to the doctors sitting in the viewing deck. Everybody wanted to watch the surgery. It's not every day you get to see Derek Shepherd removing nails from somebody's head.

Delilah was standing next to the neurosurgeon, ready to call out the angles she calculated for each nail. The chief of surgery was proud of his pseudo-daughter. She was carrying out her father's legacy. He was sure that in a few years, the brunette would be one of the biggest names in the medical world.

As expected, the surgery was flawless. Derek managed to pull out the nails without causing any bleeding. They let Jorge stabilise for the night, opting to get an MRI the next day. After that, both Derek and Richard forced Delilah to go to sleep. The girl couldn't be bothered to complain. She had been awake for almost 48 hours and was practically a walking corpse.
