"WHEN WE WALKin this door, you will maintain decorum. You will not laugh, vomit, or drop your jaw. Are we understood?" Dr Bailey asserted as she led her group of interns to room 2111.
"Why would we laugh?" Izzie questioned quietly. "Oh, just you wait," Alex snickered, shoving past Delilah to enter the room first. Okay, asshole.
"Good morning, Miss Connors." Delilah hears someone's voice call out. She wasn't paying attention to her surroundings. Rather, her eyes were fixated on the lump of mass on the woman's side— it was a tumour, a huge one at that. I would kill to be in on that surgery.
"Good morning, Annie. How are you? This is Dr Bailey, and these are my fellow interns," Alex greeted the bedridden woman with a sickly sweet voice. His hand gestured to the group of baby surgeons standing in a line by the door, a smile permanently stuck to his face. Delilah was surprised. She's never seen the brunette man act this way before.
"Dr Karev, we refer to patients as mister-"
"I told him to call me Annie. Miss Connors makes me feel old and fat. Which I am, but why feel that way?" Annie cut the resident off, grinning as she did so.
"Don't be silly, Ms Connors. You're not fat, you're just in a tough situation, which does-"
"Good morning," Dr Burke spoke up as he entered the room, interrupting Delilah. The girl grumbled softly under her breath but quickly quieted down when she saw Dr Bailey's reprimanding look.
"Annie, this is Dr Burke. Awesome surgeon," Alex stage whispered, introducing the attending to the patient. "Dr Karev," Bailey called out, gesturing to the attending in the room.
"Oh! Annie Connors is a 43-year-old woman who presented last night with progressive shortness of breath for the past three months," he began.
"Found to have a very large tumour of unknown origin pressed against her diaphragm. Stable vital signs. Scheduled for CT this morning, sir," he continued, pulling up the sheet to show Dr Burke the tumour.
"Thank you, Dr Karev," the cardio surgeon acknowledged. He then turned to Annie to ask her a question. "Are you at all claustrophobic?" he confirmed.
"I've been housebound for the last year. How claustrophobic could I be?" she deadpanned. Delilah let out a giggle, quickly muffling it with her hand when Meredith nudged her side.
"Alright then. Dr Stevens is going to take you up for a CT. It'll give us a better look at the tumour, and we'll know how to proceed," the attending explained. Izzie brightened up, excited that she got chosen as the intern on this case.
"Could someone tell my mom? She'll worry if she gets back and I'm not here," Annie asked, turning to Dr Burke.
"Yeah, of course. Of course," he replied, nodding along. "And, would it be possible for Alex to take me instead? I mean, he's, he's just so fun to look at," she giggled, facing the intern. Delilah narrowed her eyes. Alex is an asshole. There's no way he's doing this just out of the kindness of his heart. There's something going on, and I'll be damned if I let this sweet lady get burnt by it.
