"WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GO AFTER ANOTHER WOMAN'S HUSBAND?" Julie asked out of the blue.

Delilah's eyes widened, and she almost dropped the chart she was filling out. She glanced at her best friend, who has paused her actions in shock.

"Excuse me?" Meredith asked, clenching her jaw in anger. Delilah's hand went to Meredith's shoulder, squeezing it reassuringly. The brunette could feel Julie's eyes on her, judging her for standing with Meredith.

"It happened to me. Jeff moved in with a long-legged miniskirt who answers his phones, three weeks into my pregnancy,"  the patient shared. She winced as the gel was smeared on her bump and glared at Meredith. "By the way, that gel is really cold."

"I'm sorry about your husband," Meredith said, not acknowledging her previous question. Delilah stood behind her, awkwardly smiling at Julie as she put the filled-out chart on the table. She then focused her gaze on the ultrasound, hoping that it would take her mind off Julie and Meredith.

Julie cocked her head to the side. "Are you sorry about Dr Montgomery-Shepherd's husband?" she asked condescendingly.

Delilah clenched her fists. It was taking a lot of effort for her to not defend Meredith in this situation.

Meredith ignored Julie's question again. "I'm going to be checking a few things today," she informed.

Julie continued to speak, not acknowledging Meredith. "I bet she asked to work with you. It's what I would have done."

At those words, Delilah let out a sharp exhale. "Mer. Why don't you go check on Julie's labs? I can finish up here," she said, nodding her head to the door as if to say "Get the fuck out."

Meredith smiled gratefully at her, excusing herself before practically sprinting away.

Delilah turned to Julie. "Hey, Julie. I'll be finishing your ultrasound, okay?" she informed.

The pregnant woman nodded. "You seem very protective of Dr Grey. How could you protect her? She's a cheater," she sneered.

"Meredith is my sister. I'll always protect her. Besides, this is none of your business, Julie. You should be focusing more on your babies rather than verbally assaulting your doctor."

Delilah was in the elevator when she felt her phone buzzing in her pocket. She was on her way to look for Meredith and Dr Montgomery-Shepherd after finishing up the ultrasound. She found something worrying about them, but she couldn't definitively confirm it until she showed the Attending her discovery.

She sighed, pulling her phone out of her pocket to check the text. Delilah frowned as she read the contact name. It was from August.

Hey, Lilah. I know this is extremely cowardly of me to do over text, but I just had to get this off my chest. The few short months we've spent together have been amazing. I have loved getting to know such an extraordinary person, but I know that you're not my forever. Your love for surgery and your patients will always trump your love for me. You'll be the greatest surgeon in the future, and I'd love to be there to see it, but we can't be together anymore, Lilah. I know you love me, but it's not enough.
