"Lad....Mart..."
"LADY MARTINA!"
"OHLORD- oh, it's just you.." I blinked, snapping out of my nap as Shikari's familiar face hovered above me. Her arms were folded, and she looked thoroughly unimpressed.
"Lady Martina, what are you doing here?!" She pointed accusingly at the grass. I blinked and took in my surroundings. We were at the back of the school, where the trees provided shade and the grass was lush and soft.
"I was sleeping," I replied bluntly. She sighed dramatically, as if I had just confessed to a terrible crime.
"But why now? It's lunchtime, Lady Martina!" she exclaimed. I gave her a blank stare and shrugged.
"I'm not hungr—"
"You still have to eat!" she interjected, flicking my forehead. "Ow!" I rubbed the sore spot, grimacing. She grabbed my hand, her expression softening.
"Come on, let's go get some pastries," she said, flashing me a sweet smile. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and I found myself smiling back despite my initial reluctance. She led me to the cafeteria, her hand firmly gripping mine as if she feared I might escape. I felt warmth creeping into my cheeks.
'Why's she so nice and cute...?' I shook off the thought, refocusing on the path ahead. As soon as we entered the cafeteria, I could feel eyes on us—dozens of them, watching and whispering.
'Why are they staring...' My eyes darted around nervously. Shikari seemed to notice my discomfort and patted my back gently.
"...Don't worry, it's just because you're a noble," she whispered, trying to soothe me. I nodded stiffly, allowing her to guide me to an empty table. She gestured for me to sit.
"Wait here! I'll get us some pastries," she instructed firmly, her expression brooking no argument. I nodded again, and she flashed me another reassuring smile before disappearing into the crowd.
Clank.
Clank.
Clank.
The sharp clicks of heels against the floor grew louder. I looked up, blinking in surprise as a girl strutted over, her eyes bright with excitement.
"Hey! Are you really Prince Takashi's fiancée?!" she squealed, leaning in far too close for comfort. My eyes widened, and I managed a hesitant nod. Suddenly, more girls crowded around, their voices overlapping in a flurry of questions.
"Isn't it too early to have a fiancé?"
"Are you going to be the next queen?!"
"Aw, isn't it amazing to be married to him?" They crowded closer, hands reaching out to touch my arms, my shoulders, my hands. My heart pounded in my chest. Shikari... where are you...?
---
Shikari's POV:
'Hmm... maybe I should get some cupcakes... oh! Macarons!' I piled pastries onto a plate, humming cheerfully to myself. Lady Martina would surely love these... I imagined her face lighting up, and a grin spread across mine. Perfect!
But when I returned to our table, my heart dropped. Lady Martina was surrounded—no, suffocated—by other girls. They were crowding around her, touching her, giggling, talking over one another. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but I saw the discomfort on her face.
Something flared up inside me—sharp and unyielding. My grip on the tray tightened, and before I realized it, I had slammed it down onto the table.
Clatter!
The entire cafeteria went silent, heads turning toward me. Lady Martina's eyes snapped to mine, wide with surprise.
"Shikari...?" she murmured, her voice soft and unsure. That was all I needed. I took a step forward, my eyes locked onto the group.
"Can't you all see that Lady Martina is clearly uncomfortable?!" I snapped, slamming my palm onto the table. Whispers spread like wildfire, but I didn't care. All that mattered was Lady Martina's safety. I scanned the faces of the girls and my gaze landed on one, her hand still clutching Lady Martina's.
I didn't even think. I marched forward, grabbed the girl's wrist, and yanked it away. With my other arm, I wrapped it protectively around Lady Martina's waist, pulling her close. "No one," I growled, my voice firm, "no one touches Lady Martina without her permission."
The girl I pulled away stared at me in disbelief, clutching her wrist. I ignored her and focused entirely on Lady Martina. Her eyes were wide, her cheeks flushed.
"Come on," I whispered gently, my voice softening. "Let's go somewhere quieter."
She nodded, still in shock, and let me guide her back to the grassy area where I found her earlier. I let go of her waist, watching as she straightened herself out.
"W-what was that?" she asked, voice shaking slightly. I looked down, my cheeks burning.
"I... I don't know. I just... I couldn't stand seeing them touch you. It felt... wrong." My fists clenched at my sides. "Like something was stabbing my heart."
Her eyes softened. "You were just worried about me, right?"
I hesitated, then nodded. "Y-yeah... I just... I want to protect you..."
A pause hung in the air between us, thick with unspoken feelings.

Martina's POV:
Martina sat across from Prince Takashi at the tearoom, her hands gently cradling a porcelain teacup. The sweet aroma of imported jasmine filled the space, calming yet strangely hollow. Takashi spoke animatedly, but Martina's thoughts lingered on Shikari.
The door creaked open, and Shikari stepped in, eyes locked on Martina. "Pardon my intrusion, Your Highness," she bowed politely. "Lady Martina, I was asked to bring you some fresh pastries."
"I didn't know you were still around, Shikari," Takashi remarked casually.
"I always am," Shikari replied, her gaze never leaving Martina.
Moments later, when the tea session concluded, Shikari escorted Martina back to the courtyard. Silence stretched between them before Shikari finally spoke.
"Did you enjoy your time with him?" Her voice was soft, but tension simmered beneath it. Martina blinked, surprised by the question.
"I... I suppose. It was pleasant," she replied carefully. Shikari's eyes darkened.
"But not enough to make you forget earlier... right?" Shikari's voice lowered, almost a whisper. Martina's breath caught, her gaze locked with Shikari's.
"I... I haven't forgotten," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
Shikari stepped closer, the space between them vanishing. "Good." Her fingers brushed lightly against Martina's cheek. "I don't want you to..."
