Chapter 39

  Today is December 24th.... Christmas Eve.
Caden and I are currently at his parents having Christmas with them then we are flying out to go back to Alabama for my families Christmas

We ate and played games and opened gifts.
It was currently 8:56pm. We have to leave here at 9:00 so we can get to the airport for our flight at 10:15pm. 

"Hey honey are you ready?" Caden asked me
" yeah let me run to the bathroom real quick before we go" I said

We already had our bags packed in kennas car. Kenna and cooper got us from the airport snd are dropping us back off.

Caden said his goodbyes while I was in the bathroom

"Bye sweetie" Jill said as she hugged me
"Bye y'all thanks again for supper and the gifts. See y'all next year!" I said after  I hugged allen.

On the ride to the air port Kenna and I sat in the back talking quietly as cooper and Caden sat up front talking.

Most of the plane ride I sleep. I feel my arm being shook when I open my eyes to see Caden trying to wake me.

"We are here..." he says as he unbuckles

Austin and Gracie are supposed to be picking us up.
I called Austin to see where he was after standing out front for 5 minutes in the freezing Alabama weather. He didn't answer so I called my mom

M- hello Avery is everything okay?
A-hey mom no I can't get in touch with Austin he's supposed to pick us up!
M- he didn't call you?! Oh my gosh I'm going to ring his neck. Honey Gracie's father is in the hospital so he is there with her.
A- are you kidding me?! It's 12:45am mom I need to get Home. How and I supposed to get home?

Riley's POV
"Thanks man! See you next year" I said getting off my private plane as I get closer to the front door I hear a familiar voice. I look up to see Avery and Caden. Avery is frustrated.. I can tell by the way she's pacing and talking with her hands.

"Are you kidding me?! It's 12:45am mom I need to get home. How am I supposed to get home?" She talks into her phone

"I can take you home" I said making her jump Caden turning around fast

"I'll call you back. Riley's here" she said hanging up.

"I'll take y'all home if I need to. I'm here and I'm going to my house I can drop y'all off at your parents on the at through??" I offered again

Avery looked at Caden "if that okay?" She asked him
"I don't see why not. It makes sense" he said

"Follow me then" I said leading the way back to my truck in the parking garage.

We get loaded and crank up the heat.
"Avery you can sit upfront im going to sleep since you slept on the plane" Caden said
"Okay. Sounds good" she replied before putting her purse in the back.

"Riley are you kidding me! You still have this" she said holding up a blanket from the back seat

It was a blanket I always kept in here because she was cold 24/7. Even when it was 110 degrees outside.

"Yeah I never know when I will need it" I said

She grabbed it and crawled into the passenger seat sitting with one legs under her and her elbow on the middle arm rest. The ride at first was silent Caden was finally asleep.

"So you're getting married huh" I said to her looking at the ring on her finger

"Yeah i am. Im so excited. I love him so much" she said looking at her ring

"You know I always thought it would be me and you... when josh proposed I was pissed and then I was so happy y'all broke up." I confessed to her hoping Caden couldn't hear

"Riley you can't say things like that. I'm engaged I love Caden. He is nothing like josh. Plus you have Sophia" she said not taking her eyes off the window

I let out a small sigh

"I don't think I do anymore.." I said to her thinking about the argument we had before I left.

"Want to talk about it?" She asked me knowing she didn't want to hear

"I know you don't want to hear about it" I said to her

"Riley if something is bothering you m, you can tell me. I'm still your friend.... I think" she says turning towards me in the seat

"Idk Avery I..." I started but was interrupted by her saying

"Just tell me. He's asleep it's just me and you." She said

"I went out hunting with Harris and Luke the other day and she got really mad and yalled and cussed me. Said I was ruining her life because she told me not to go. She said she had to go eat with some friends. You know me I'm not going to just sit at home. Plus this was a once in a lifetime hunt. And I was on the phone the other night with Casey and she was mad because I was talking to my sister and not her. After thanksgiving at your house. she chewed me out because I took her to your house snd because we played ball together and it's like I'm not supposed to do anything or be friends with anyone but her. I love her but I don't know what to do. I don't want us to break up. But I can't be myself around her. I feel like if I say something infront of someone she will yell at me or say something to embarrass me" I confessed to her thinking of all the things that had happened.

"Riley. Sounds to me like you need to take a break from dating. You do you. You go hunt when you want. Deer hunting or duck hunting, fishing or playing music whatever it may be. You do not need someone holding you back.  I told You from the start of y'all's relationship that it wasn't going to be good. She's trying to keep you from your family And friends. That isn't healthy.  Also the reason she's acting like that sounds like she doesnt trust you. You are a very trustworthy person I have always trusted you. You know things about me that NOONE else knows. And thanks to you keeping those secrets I still trust you. I can't say much because I'm engaged but you know how I have felt for you in the past. I love you as a friend and little more. You will always be in my heart and I will care for you no matter what but I am about to be married and I want you to take time. If it's meant to be for y'all it will find its way. And I'd there is someone  else for you then maybe  she will show up soon but the best thing for you to do now is take time for  yourself." She said making me thing back yo the times she confessed her love for me and I didn't listen.

"Av... you don't have a whole lot of room to talk..." I said looking at her

"What?" She asked with a confused look on her face

"Yeah. You aren't yourself around him" I said pointing to the back seat

"What are you talking about? Yes I am" she said getting offensive

"Avery for one I haven't seen you drink around him" I said to her

"Well it just hasn't crossed my mind. He's doesn't drink so why should I? I don't need it" she said.

"Two I see the way you look at him. Like you want him so badly but can't have him at the same time" I told her

"We are waiting for marriage He has been waiting his whole like." She said

"We both know you aren't..." I said receiving a slap on the arm for that

"You are an asshole you know that!" She said
"You have slept with way more people than me so I don't want to hear it!" She said angry

It was quite... moments later we pulled into her parents house.

Avery got out and slammed the door. I upset her I think.

"Hey honey come on we are here" she said trying to wake Caden

"Caden come on let's go" she said shaking him

"I'm up in coming goodness baby" he said as he stretched.

She grabbed their shared suitcase and her bag and purse and slammed the tailgate shut walking past me to the front door.

"Don't worry about her she's just tired. Thanks for the ride man!" Caden said before shutting my door softly
