Seje and Lauri had watched two squads go off into the city before them. According to the commanding officers, the titan advance hadn't halted either time the squads were sent.
"I hope this doesn't mean they're dying," wished Seje.
"I'm sure our friends will be fine," Lauri replied.
"It's not just our friends I'm worried about."
Seje stood up as one of the officers waved toward his group. "Squad 31, advance!" The soldier called. Lauri and Seje rushed off of the building, flying slightly southwest toward the wall.
Lauri's blond hair gleamed in the sunlight, she pushed her glasses up her nose and flew off into the distance. Seje, followed down an alley to the right. He shot a hook onto a nearby tower. The slender hook chinked and stiffened, and with a swift pulling of a trigger, he flew above the buildings.
"Finally, there are the titans!" Called out Maxine.
"Right, it looks like they're pretty spread out," shouted Daniel, somewhere to the left of Lauri.
"Damn! Why are there so many of them?!" Lauri questioned.
"The other squads must be wiped out. But I can easily count 7 titans, all 10-15 meters over here. If we split up we can take them out." Seje mentioned from in front of everyone.
As they came closer to the group of titans, Seje, Lauri, and Shade split from Maxine, Bryan, and Daniel. They went down opposite alleyways, to take out titans more efficiently.
Seje flew over a building where a titan was standing in wait. The titan reached out its arm to grab Seje, but he shot a hook into it's shoulder. In seconds, Seje was by the titan's nape, quick as ever he pressed a trigger sharply on the handle mechanism causing him to swing around very quickly.
He took his swords and dragged them around the entirety of the titan's nape, he felt the flesh tearing beside him. The heat let out from the torn flesh dazed him for a second, but he managed to land on a rooftop safely. Below him, Lauri was facing a much smaller titan. She shot a hook into the house in front of her and flew past its shoulder. In a flash she turned and sped towards the titan's nape, and cut it clean off.
On a nearby street, Daniel saw a titan come into view and charged straight downwards at it. He got a clean cut. He shot out hooks far off, away from the titans. While he was being pulled through the air, he smoothly turned to face Maxine, who was flying behind him.
"What'd you think of that sweetheart?" he flirted.
"I think it was a lucky shot." Maxine contorted.
"Oh tha-" Daniel started, but never got to finish. A titan came around the corner suddenly and caught Daniel off guard. Before he could turn, it chomped him. Maxine screamed in horror as his leg fell to the ground. She swung under the titan's arm, and quickly up its back. Once she reached the nape, she made an X with her swords and it was done.
Still mortified by seeing the death of her friend, she flew back towards where the titans were grouped.
"BRYAN!" She screamed, "BRYAN!" She couldn't see him. Before she could even consider the possibility of him being dead, a titan appeared and grabbed her. The sudden hit knocked the wind out of her. Luckily, Bryan saw the titan grab her.
Bryan fired a hook into the side of the titan's nape. He pulled a trigger and raced toward her, swords ready to strike. He was so close to the nape, when the titan put out its hand and grabbed him. The titan switched its focus to Bryan, eyeing him menacingly.
"PLEASE, NO!" Bryan shouted, before the titan crammed him into its mouth and began to chew. Maxine had awaken just in time to see Bryan's hand fall out of the teeth of the titan. She heard his muffled screams from inside the titan's mouth.
