Months passed, and we made little progress on the investigation as Soyeon was encouraging me to take a break. Soojin's note made it clear that she had nothing to do with it, and I felt bad for suspecting her in the first place. I had spent my days buiness as usual, or as much as they could be, meeting up with Minnie and Soyeon whenever I had time. It took me far too long to shake the image of Soojin's corpse in my brain. Sometimes, it would appear in my dreams. It made me thankful I wasn't the one to discover Shuhua's body. I still hadn't told Minnie about Soyeon and I's secret investigation. I feared getting her involved would be a horrible idea, and I didn't want her to get in trouble.
It was now Spring, and we all had off for a few weeks before the new semester. I went back
home to be with my parents, as did Soyeon, and Minnie flew back to Thailand for a week, and spent the rest of the break in Seoul with Soyeon and I. Unlike Soyeon and I, Minnie had her own apartment in Seoul that her parents paid the rent on, and she went back there after she was back from Thailand. I had used this time to relax, and I swore I wouldn't think about Shuhua or Soojin at all to let my mind rest. Minnie and Soyeon talked to me regularly, calling and texting me all the time, and most of the time when we hung out we hung out as a group. We were much more of a unit now, and each had our own little archetypes we seemed to play.Soyeon was relentlessly flirty at all times, something she couldn't do when Shuhua was around. She was quite the mom friend as well. With Soyeon hanging with us, we were hardly ever messed with, since nearly everyone was afraid of her.
Minnie was what I liked to call "comic relief". Although she hardly ever had any valuable advice, she was hilarious, and always knew what to say. She was a bit of a rich girl, since she came from a wealthy Thai family, but she was never braggy about it (aside from when it was comedically appropriate) — instead, she often took Soyeon and I shopping and would offer to pay for everything all the time. We always refused, but she always didn't care. Her personality was chaotic and eccentric. There were definitely some lights off upstairs.
I was the introvert friend that had to be dragged out to social gatherings. I didn't do anything that involved leaving my house unless forced to. I always had fun, but I needed the extra shove. I was more of a stay home girl. They always respected that, but recognized when I needed to get the hell out sometimes and forced me to go do something with them. If it weren't for them, I seriously would never leave my room.
It was 11:00 AM on a Tuesday, and I had literally just woken up. To make it worse, I wouldn't have woken if Minnie didn't blow up my phone. I rolled over in bed groaning and mindlessly, I pushed the "do not disturb" button on my phone. After sleeping in again an extra 15 minutes, I finally sat up to check our groupchat.
