"But... Soyeon, if you suspected that from the beginning, why'd you take the gun?" I asked. The very idea of Soojin committing such a vile act chilled me to my core.
"If she really murdered Shuhua, I couldn't let her stay in possession of the weapon. Assuming she did do it, I either let her keep the gun and put people at risk with an armed murderer running around, or take the gun and let her frame me, in the name of my and other's safety. It was the better of two evils. Of course, Soojin being the culprit is just a guess. She could've given it to me only because of the first reason I said before." She explained to me. I nodded my head, taken aback by Soyeon's reasoning.
"You're a good person." I muttered, allowing my eyes to meet hers for a brief moment. Soyeon was the first to break the contact though, as she glanced down and sighed with a solemn expression.
"What's wrong?" I inquired, with a worrisome tone. Soyeon shook her head, before smiling at me and looking up at my face again.
"It's nothing. Don't worry about me. I... do have questions for you though." She said, her words beginning to trail off as she spoke. I could taste the somberness in her voice.
"Yeah, go ahead." I invited. Soyeon slowly brought her hand up, beginning to point at my neck.
"Can... can I..." She began. Suddenly, her demeanor crumbled apart right in front of me. She was struggling to push out any coherent words.
"Can I... see your neck? The bruise... I want to see it." She spoke. Surprised, I nodded, and Soyeon took that as her invitation to scoot a little closer, examining the large, purple mark Shuhua had left on me, using her fingers to gently stretch the skin to get a better look. I was hesitant to accept, recalling how Shuhua would've reacted to how close Soyeon was to me. I could feel her warm breath gently dancing on the surface of my skin. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, following the feeling of a light flush to my cheeks. While still closely inspecting the injury, I heard her speak again.
"Did she..." She began. She stopped herself, probably figuring out how to word her question correctly. I already knew what she was going to ask me.
"She did." I confirmed Soyeon's suspicions for her before she could finish her thought.
It was liberating.
I was free. I was embarrassed, But I was free. I had no idea finally speaking about my experience would feel so... great. I never felt trapped in the first place I thought, and yet I had never felt more free just then, in that moment.
Soyeon pulled herself away from me slowly, her fingers leaving a lingering feeling of warmth on my neck. Failing to make eye contact, she began to ask another question.
"Are there... more?" She asked me with the same tone as before. I sat in silence for a moment, the loudest silence ever. Finally, I decided to suck it up.
'I'm going to free myself from all of this.'
I reached my hand down to the hem of my shirt, lifting the fabric up and completely removing the garment. Soyeon didn't look fazed by the fact that I was stripping my clothes in front of her.
'No more secret keeping.'
I turned around, facing my back to her. Where I had been thrown against the wall over a week ago now, another large bruise had formed. Of course now, it was looking better than how it looked then, just like the neck bruise, but both of them were still pretty dark and scary looking.
I couldn't see Soyeon's expression, but based off of how she spoke, I could imagine it wasn't the same blank face she sported most of the time in public. She ran her fingers down my spine, sending chills down my body from head to toe.
