"Don't tell me you're gonna show up in a hoodie and leggings again." Minnie bitched over the phone.
"What if I do?" I laughed.
"Do I have to come over there to get ready with you?" Minnie tested.
"Soyeon is already here."
"Okay, and? She almost let you go clubbing in pajamas."
"What If I just wanna be comfortable?" I whined.
"Wear that sparkly mini dress I got you! I haven't seen you wear it once."
"Yeah, because mini dresses aren't comfortable! And, like, the entire stomach is cut out of it."
"But it looks so good on you!" She fought back. "Fuck this. I'm coming over there. I am not letting you go partying in literal rags."
"No, Mi—"
"Lalalala, I can't hear you. I'm on the way. Bye!"
Before I could even have a chance to reply, Minnie hung up the phone, leaving Soyeon and I to laugh by ourselves.
"I love her." I sighed. "I hate her. But I love her."
"Babe, if you wanna go in comfy clothes, you can. But if you want my input, I am kinda with Minnie on this one." Soyeon admitted, still smiling as she sat on the floor on her phone. "You should get more comfortable dressing up. You looked really good when you dressed up before. I mean, you always look good, but you know what I mean."
"Old habits die hard, I guess." I shrugged.
"You know you can dress modestly and still dress nicely, right?"
"I know." I uttered, standing up and making my way to my dresser. "I just haven't dressed up on a regular basis in so long. It feels wrong." I chuckled.
"Don't do anything you're not comfy with, but I won't lie, you dressing up that day was the best surprise I've ever gotten." She half-joked.
"I love Minnie, but modesty is not in her vocabulary. She gives me gifts all the time and half of them are always super revealing clothes and she gets surprised when I don't wear them. I don't know what she expects."
"Like what?"
"This." I reached into my dresser drawer and pulled out a tube top. To me, it looked like a strip of fabric.
"Is that a belt..?" Soyeon asked, puzzled, standing up and taking it in her hands.
"It's a shirt."
"Well, I'm sure it looks better on... It's just really stretchy. Maybe you could pair it with a jacket or something to make it more in your comfort zone?"
"We can wait till Minnie gets here and see what she makes me wear this time." I rolled my eyes playfully.
"Can I ask you something? You don't have to answer. It's just been on my mind." She suddenly queried. I turned to meet eyes with hers, smiled, and nodded subtly.
"Is Shuhua the reason why you don't like dressing up?" She asked.
After a moment of absorbing the question, I shook my head.
"Not anymore." I replied. "But it used to be that way. She got really jealous. Didn't like it when I dressed in things like crop tops or skirts. She wasn't always like that, though. It's kinda crazy how she changed so drastically. Now, since it's been my norm for so long, it's just what's comforting to me I guess. I think it really upset Minnie. Before Shuhua and I got together, she loved finding new clothes she thought I'd like and I would wear them all the time. I think... she thought Shuhua stole me from her, if that makes sense. I think she gets so upset when I don't dress up for parties because she wants the 'old' me back. Sometimes I'm scared she'll think I'm not the same person I used to be and abandon me." I went on, catching myself at the end. "Sorry. I rambled so much. To answer your question, no. I don't dress for Shuhua anymore."
