From that point on, I welcomed Yuqi with open arms. To me, she had more than proved her worth to her cause. Although Soyeon said that she trusted Yuqi, I didn't feel she was being all that honest as it appeared sometimes that she was still on edge around her. Yuqi definitely noticed too, but never pried or brought attention to it, unless to tease Soyeon. I think it was a clash of understandings. To Soyeon, Yuqi was nothing but a coworker. Outside of the case, she never cared to go out of her way to bond with Yuqi. Yuqi, on the other hand, was interested in becoming friends, and often made attempts to arrange outings or talk to us normally. It's not like Soyeon resented Yuqi or anything, she was just trying to be careful, or I thought. I intended to tell Minnie about Yuqi eventually, but I just could never find the right moment. I didn't want to involve her in all the bullshit, and I couldn't find a way for them to meet that didn't involve that. The thought of getting her involved just made me worried for her, and I didn't think it was worth it. No offense to her, but Minnie wouldn't have much to contribute regardless. Yuqi had already "betrayed" the police department just by working with us, and that alone was dangerous enough. I always grew up thinking the police were a force to rely on, but these people were completely convinced that I was guilty and were not even considering investigating anyone else. Yuqi had basically been sent to investigate me, which was a sign to me that they were not only on my trail, but they could have others out investigating me as well. This thought scared me, but I decided I'd ask Yuqi about it more when I had time.

We spent days analyzing the note after that. Finally, Yuqi concluded that in order to move forward, we needed to find Seo Soochul, as he was our only lead. We planned another meeting to brainstorm on achieving this goal. We decided again to meet up at Yuqi's apartment, and maybe even find and meet Soochul right then if we got lucky. I doubted it though. We didn't know the full extent of Yuqi's abilities yet, though, so who knows?

It was the same deal. We scattered our arrival times and made it to the apartment by three this time, Yuqi ecstatically greeting me as I entered the room.

"Ah, finally the meeting may commence. Welcome." She chirped, closing the door behind me.

"Sup." Soyeon nodded as she had also walked up to the door to say hi, dropping the cold demeanor and smiling at me warmly. I waved in response, then turned my attention back to Yuqi.

"Ah, Soyeon, you're so nice to her but you can't even smile at me? Is this how you treat your host? Mm, so mean. I even cook for you..." Yuqi worked up a fake cry and wiped an imaginary tear.

"It's more complicated than you think." Soyeon joked, glancing over at me to check if the joke went over my head. It definitely did not. I was more so surprised that Soyeon initiated such a joke about our "more than friends but not dating" thing in front of Yuqi.

"Very funny." I teased. Yuqi still had no idea about Soyeon and I's "situation", as far as I knew. I never told her and I don't see why Soyeon would either. It just wasn't important, so we never brought it up.

"You're not even gonna let me in on the drama? Some friends you are." Yuqi chaffed playfully.

"Boohoo, let's talk crime." Soyeon replied. Yuqi nodded and led us to her bedroom, which was quite minimally furnished and decorated. Considering that Yuqi said she was only renting the apartment for the purposes of crime research, it was okay. It had nothing on the walls in terms of decoration, but it did have a mattress, a desk and a laptop with one of those chairs with wheels, and what looked like a couple beanbag chairs.

"Sorry, I haven't really put a lot of effort into making this place livable. I've only lived here for a few days, so you can imagine furnishing this place isn't exactly my top priority while working on this case." She admitted, clearly a little embarrassed with the state of the lifeless room. "I don't actually sleep here most of the time, so really saying I've 'lived' here is generous... I've been pulling allnighters at the police station. Anyways..."
