"Oh..." Miyeon sighed. "I'm sorry but... I really have no interest or intention to work with you guys... respectfully."
"And why may that be?" Yuqi questioned, taken aback by the firm reply.
"I mean, put yourself in my shoes. I really don't want anything to do with Shuhua..."
"This is strange, coming from the person who collapsed at our feet and begged for forgiveness because she felt so guilty and responsible for Shuhua's death..." Yuqi scoffed. Miyeon seemed almost offended by the comment, her lip curling up in repulse.
"This is my trauma, Yuqi." Miyeon fired back, shaking her head.
"Okay, and it's also your jail time." Yuqi shrugged. "Take your pick."
"Um... Did I miss a chapter or something?" Minnie mumbled, lost in the conversation she barely had a say in.
"I respect your decision, Miyeon." I pitched in, shocking Yuqi even further, who seemed to shoot me a baffled glance.
"Miyeon, if you feel so guilty about what happened, this is your chance to prove to me that you're telling the truth." Yuqi coerced. "[Y/N], respectfully—"
"I know you're not about to complain about how much 'empathy' I have again." I sharply cut her off, igniting the issue further.
"I am, actually." Yuqi scoffed. "You want me to start suspecting you instead? Or better yet, both of you?"
"What did you just say?" I tested, raising my voice, to which Soyeon finally butted in.
"Both of you, stop." She intervened.
"No, no, wait a minute." I refused, raising my hand to Soyeon and furrowing my brows. "I want Yuqi to repeat what she just said." I reiterated, watching as Yuqi sported that same cocky look she always did. It was starting to get on my nerves.
"What? Does that offend you?" Yuqi mocked. "Is that because I'm onto something?"
"Yuqi, what the fuck are you on about?" I fired back. "I think it's ridiculous that after everything I've done for you, including nearly bleed out, you still question my innocence."
"...Yuqi?" Miyeon mumbled with furrowed brows, having that she had heard Yuqi's real name. "So my mom..."
"Oh, you know exactly what I'm 'on about'." Yuqi rebutted. "All you've done so far is hold me back."
"If you're so good, why do you need me? Just investigate by yourself if I'm such a burden." I snapped, shooting up from my seat. "You said it yourself, you're Yuqi. You're the 'prodigy' or whatever."
"You know what? Maybe I will." Yuqi snarked.
"...My mom wasn't lying about your identity." Miyeon pieced together.
"Shut up." Yuqi hissed sharply to Miyeon, who immediately ceased her questioning with no protests. "We'll address that later."
"Yuqi, watch it." Soyeon finally stepped in. "I don't know what's gotten into you, being so rude to [Y/N] and Miyeon all of a sudden, but it isn't gonna fly."
"Isn't gonna fly?" Yuqi scoffed.
"Yuqi, you don't know what Miyeon has gone through. She doesn't owe you the help." I glanced over to Miyeon, who very subtly grinned back at me. "Her and I dated the same monster, for God's sake. I don't expect you to know what it's like, but please do at least show a little empathy. I don't know why you need her to help anyway, if you're so good."
