Chapter 39
Always
I didn't know that my husband would put an effort to find her so that we can be reunited. And I really appreciate my husband more and more for all the things he has done for me and for his love. I feel like I can only try to equal Hale's love for me but I can never get past him. I feel like Hale loves me more.
"Are you a little nervous?" Hale held my hand that was resting on my lap.
I'm now very pregnant with our child but I can still manage and go on a travel like this. And I can still remember some of it...
I remember this one time when I really wanted to eat Kangkong chicharon. When I got pregnant I remember about the food and asked my husband for it.
"Where can we buy it..." He looked a little doubtful.
I gave him an annoyed look. He can't tell me that we can't have it now. I want it and the baby wants it, too. Buntis nga talaga ako.
"Of course, love. I'll look for it right away." Mabilis din naman niyang binawi.
Tumango na ako at pinaalis na siya ng bahay to buy me my Crispy Kangkong.
Kung saan saan noon naghanap si Hale but at that time wala siyang nakita. So he can't buy it for me. Pero natuwa pa rin ako sa ginawa niya, because he searched for it online instead. Pinag-aralan pa niya ang simple recipe and then he just bought Kangkong in the market and made me some chips. And I loved it!
"Thank you, Hale!" Before I went back to just enjoying my Kangkong.
I smiled upon remember it. Hale had been a really wonderful husband to me. He was my first in everything.
Umiling ako at ngumiti. "I'm fine, Hale.
"It's been a long time since you two last saw each other. But when I talked to her she can still remember you very well, and she even got a little emotional when I mentioned you to her. She's told me that there was not a day that she did not think about you. And she always worries about you, Liz."
I smiled.
She surely aged but she still looked the same to me.
And she cried out of happiness when she saw me again after many years...
"Palagi kitang naiisip, anak.
I gave her a reassuring smile.
She wiped her tears and looked at Hale before she gave back her attention to me.
Indeed Hale really saved me...
I turned to look at my husband and gave him a contented smile.
And then I remember everything from the very beginning...
My mother died early and I was left to the care of my father. Isang kasambahay lang ang nagmalasakit sa akin... Nanay Pilar was the only one who cared for me in that house. I was treated like a mere housemaid. And thanks to the books I've read that gave me the knowledge and idea that I needed...and I saw an opportunity with Hale that time when our paths crossed...
I just told him my thoughts... And he took me with him, protected me, gave me a family and a home that I longed for. And for all of it I really thank Hale for everything. I am glad that he's my husband, always now.
Hale let me stay with Nanay Pilar. And the kids were polite to my former nanny. Sa huli ay natapos na rin ang iyakan at ngumiti at tumawa na kami, while we spend time with each other.
"Thank you for taking good care of me when I was young, Nanay Pilar." I told her in the end.
She smiled genuinely and held my hand. Tears shined in her eyes again.
Her eyes widened a fraction. "Naku! She said, still a lots emotionally.
And I only smiled.
Thinking about my past before I met Hale was truly sad, too. And it can also make me emotional. I doubt if I'll ever meet Hale... Or that we'll end up this way.
I will not easily forget about what I went through... But I will also look back at it with all the life lessons it taught me. Happiness doesn't always come, or we don't always feel happy. It ends... Just like how hardships in life can end, too. Lahat ng bagay ay may katapusan. Kahit nga tayo. So if you're going through a lot of things right now...it will pass, it will end. It will be the case, eventually...
So if you're crying right now... It will end and will be replaced by a smile and even happy laughter. Just like how the sun shines after the rain poured...
