Jayden kept blowing up my phone in our time apart for a while.

At school, he distanced himself from me probably because he didn't know if I would decline speaking to him.

Then it all stopped.
It just stopped.

When he realised that I didn't want anything to do with him, he quit trying to get my attention.

He wasn't at school that much anymore.

I was sitting on a bench with Laetitia talking about this party that we were going to.

"So should I go with the white one? Cause the majority of the people there will come in black." She said, pulling her hair together to form a ponytail.

"Yeah, you should do that. I bet you'll look great." I said.

I sighed, turning my body to lay my head on her legs.

She started playing with my scalp, which made me shudder.

"He'll be fine."

"Is he though, Lae?"

Even if we were not together anymore. I was still worried about him. Cause I still have love for him.

"Yes, gurl, have you seen the dude. Trust me, that little mind of yours got nothing to worry about."

Laetitia didn't know anything Jayden told me on the day we broke up. I didn't tell anyone. I just told her that we weren't doing good for a while, which shocked her. She didn't expect that.

"Why won't you talk to him. I know you want to talk with him. That ring that is on that finger says a lot."

She was right.

I did want to talk to him, but I was scared to put my family in danger. I always do things without a second thought, but this is The Mafia we're talking about.

"I don't feel good." My eyes started to water.

"Aww, baby, don't cry." she said, hugging my head.

"Did I make a mistake?" I wiped the tears from my face while I removed my head from her lap.

"Stop. Stop it." She grabbed my shoulders.

"I know you love him, but things weren't going good for a while, and that's what you have to accept. Even if you have the urge to hold him, kiss him. Even when you feel like dying at the thought of not being with him. You will get over him. Trust me. I'm speaking from experience."

She was right.

But she couldn't understand because that wasn't the truth.

We broke up because of his identity. The Mafia isn't a game. They killed people, which made me wonder how many he killed. Even if we came back together, I needed to watch my back and make sure to put a good representation because of their title.

If Lae knew the truth, she'd have a different mindset about this.

"I love you, and I'm going to be there for you, and I'm going to be with you every step of the way." She pulled me in an embrace, kissing the top of my head.

The bell rang, and we had to endure the rest of the classes. Afterward I picked my dress up from my house and I went to Laetitia's house where I got ready.

We arrived at the party in a white dress with Lae wearing sparkly silver heels underneath while I wore just plain white. My maxi dress had a U-form at the back. Laetitia's dress was midi.

We stepped inside the house where the party was with me intertwining our arms together.

We stepped in confidence, knowing that we were going to enjoy it to the fullest with no care in the world. We weren't going to talk about the what-ifs, or we weren't going to stress about what people were going to say. This night was about us.
