The apartment had fallen into almost complete darkness save for the lamp that barely illuminated the room Akechi was currently standing in, the open plan kitchen/living space was spacious but seemed empty once darkness had crawled its way through the windows, staying there too long would most probably have your hair standing up on end as you anticipate the sight of an unwelcomed stranger round the corner. It didn't faze Akechi though, on the contrary, he'd grown quite used to the dark and quiet, after all, his mother used to leave him home alone whilst growing up often, before things had changed for the better.
If anything, he'd learnt to make peace with the horrors night held over most. The creaks around the house, trees brushing against windows and the howl of the raging winds during a typhoon. Now here he stood, scrubbing at the dishes from dinner that had just passed by. It was the first time in years that he felt the creeping sense of dread, though not from the darkness and it's friends no...
'The way she looked at me... It was...'
The experience at the Doctor's office was still raw in his memory, how everything seemed too good to be true, how truly unsettling the atmosphere was. The moment he was separated from her side, the churning of his stomach worsened, it was a complete mistake to leave her in that room alone whilst she was most vulnerable. Nothing seemed right, and his fears were confirmed when he witnessed 'that'.
When the whole room started shifting before his very eyes.
The way it drained him almost immediately of what little energy he was running off.
How the doctor seemed to act as if nothing had ever happened despite everything in the vicinity of them both screaming otherwise.
He'd like to think he acted well during that time, bringing forward his want to keep F/N safe over his need to investigate everything he witnessed in those few short moments. He knew he could look into things more later when he was back in familiar territory. Although...
He couldn't shake the feeling that someone, be it present in the house or some overseeing omnipresent being could see exactly what he was doing in that moment.
'I must be losing my mind to let such paranoid thoughts take over,' his thoughts spoke, scrubbing just a little harder at the plate in his hand. 'Though... This can't be a coincidence, can it? He has to have some part in this, right?' His scrubbing stopped, mulling over the possibility in his mind.
Did he have a part to play in F/N's messed up memories, how she was remembering things he knew didn't happen? It was much of a stretch to think of this being the key to all of the answers, but any possibility had to be followed, even if it didn't completely make sense as of now, after all, wasn't that a detective's job? To leave no stone unturned?
The shaking feeling of being watched hadn't left him though, it felt almost crushing as if a mace had just been swung at him at full speed. He had to find a way to shake that feeling off if he was to make any meaningful progress in this new investigation of his. He had to find a way to fix this -the truth behind F/N's condition and why that room had changed in front of his eyes.
Wiping off the water from the last dish left in his hands, he quickly cleaned everything away to it's proper place so it was ready to use in the morning. It seemed so menial compared to what he was currently facing at that moment, but even the greatest amount of chaos needed a slither of order to make everything work. It was probably going to be the most control he would have in the situation anyways.
Turning towards his room, he pushed the door aside slightly to check on it's sole occupant. She was fast asleep, probably exhausted from the events of the day and with the warming effects of a good homemade meal, it probably made falling asleep all the more easy for her. It was so tempting for him to join her once more in bed, he knew he hadn't the time to rest though. Getting her back to normal was of the utmost importance, even if it cost him sleep now, he could catch up once more when this was all fixed.
